Exclamation FAQ: Marriott Platinum to SPG Platinum Status Match [Master Thread]

Thank You STARWOOD!,

I emailed my Marriott Platinum proof to Starwood today as I am not happy with recent changes at Marriott and was pleasantly surprised when I received a confirmation email welcoming me to SPG Platinum Preferred only an hour after requesting.

You are off to a great start with me Starwood^

Sent mine in the other day as well, received a reply within 3 hours. Outstanding job SPG, this is definitely the way to get us frequent folks using your services.

I assume I have till the end of 2009 to re-qualify for Plat?

Joediver,

Can you tell me what you had to email Starwood? I am currently Marriott platinum as well.

Also, what email did you send it to? Anyone in particular?

Sounds like you got a quick response.

William

email a copy of your MR current card, last statement or a printout of MR activity, your current SPG number.

Wow, can't believe you heard back so quickly - I'm not sure what I did wrong. As I posted in the Hilton status match thread, I sent Starwood proof of both Marriott and Hilton top tier status and still (4 weeks later) haven't been granted a match. I've inquired twice since I originally asked for the match and each time have been told they are still working on it.

Actually, all I emailed was a pdf file with copies of my Platinum card and my Premier Exec UAL card thrown in too. Signed it and added my SPG number. Sent to the address that STARWOOD LURKER II uses at the bottom of his posts. I think I actually got it off your thread jkmo24.

I did, however, fax the same info to Starwood @ the fax number I found on their website so I'm not certain which request got such a quick response. I'll give credit to STARWOOD LURKER II though since he is always responding to many requests on this site.

Hi joediver,

Thank you for your compliments. I am just doing my job serving my guests.

To be honest, I have to correct my previous mistake made many months ago.

For Platinum status match requests, do fax it together with a copy of your Marriott account statement and membership card to 512-997-9046. Alternatively, you may email it to [email protected].

Please be reminded that the outcome of the match request may take at least 30 business days. Our associates from the liaison office will contact you via email on the outcome.

For my match from Marriott Plat it took 36 days from the time I faxed in my credentials to when I received the match. It took about 6 days for me to receive a confirmation email that my fax had been received.

So it does work, though it seems that it can take a bit of time.

I guess I just hit it lucky on the timing of the fax.....like I said earlier.....I received approval in about an hour. Here's the response....

To: Mr. Joediver
Platinum Preferred Guest Number: *********

Dear Mr. Joediver,

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to send in your Platinum level credentials with Marriott Rewards. We are excited to hear that you have considered making Starwood Hotels and Resorts the place for making your dreams come true.

As you are already an elite member with Marriott Rewards, we recognize your extensive travel needs. It is our pleasure to make a one time complimentary upgrade to our Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum Preferred Level. In addition to the great benefits of our Platinum Preferred Guest Level, we simply ask that you maintain 25 eligible stays or 50 eligible nights each year. This minimum requirement is based upon a calendar year, January 1 through December 31.

To get you started on the road to great travel experiences at our wonderful hotels and resorts, we have submitted the request to have your Platinum Preferred Guest card sent to you. You can anticipate receiving your card in approximately six to eight weeks. In the meantime, you may print a copy of your temporary card from the Starwood Preferred Guest Website.

If you need assistance with setting up that special occasion, business trip or weekend getaway, we have a Platinum Concierge Agents available to assist you in that effort. You can reach us several ways, in the United States and Canada you can reach us by telephone at 1-888-625-4991. For all other countries, you can visit our website for the phone number of the office nearest you, or you can contact us by email at [email protected].

Got my Platinum Preferred Matching...now what?

About a month ago I faxed Starwood with a request for them to match my Marriott Platinum status with theirs. Just got an email saying that my "2008 Platinum Preferred Membership Kit is on the way!" the email informs me that it should arrive in 4-6 weeks.

Anyone know what time period I'll have to generate stays to maintain this status? Is it within a calendar year, or until 11/09, or what?

Thanks in advance!

You should be good to go until February 28, 2010, so you would have to re-earn Platinum status with 25 eligible stays or 50 eligible nights from January through December 2009.

LOL. Well, yeah, after 75 nights earning Marriott Platinum, this is going to seem like a piece of cake to you.
