Dinner with Captain Flanagan in Los Angeles on December 14!
Folks,
Captain Flanagan just emailed me and said he picked up a last minute trip which gives him a long layover near LAX, and he'd love to have dinner with any FlyerTalkers that might be around this Sunday, December 14.
For the three people reading this that don't know who Captain Flanagan is, check out this thread. Captain Flanagan had dinner with about a dozen FlyerTalkers in August in Denver, and from what I heard a great time was had by all.
Drinks will be at 6:00PM at the The Proud Bird Restaurant since the bar overlooks the aircraft museum outside, and dinner will be at at 6:30PM. We currently have a reservation for 16 people (which can be adjusted based on interest) under the name "Ben."

I would LOVE to meet Capt. Flanagan. I am returning from DAY Sunday morning and am scheduled to land at LAX around 2:45p.
I have a commitment from 5:30-7:30p, but I can try to cancel it...

I'll be there too - may have to leave early depending on how late everyone is...
PHX-LAX via PVD (for 7k miles) - is there any other way?
Any chance of bumming a ride from someone at LAX (or MatthewLAX - interested in sharing a taxi/rental car - I'll probably be on your flight?)

My partner and I would be interested. Into LAX at 5:29 PM on UA 121, out at 7:55PM on SW 546.

If I can get some times ASAP I'd be interested. Flights out of MSP for Sunday are pretty reasonable...

OK, Captain Flanagan emailed me, and he said anything after 5PM would work for him (and his First Officer, who'll be coming along as well^). He left the location up to FlyerTalkers, so let's come up with something fast.
What would be the best compromise time that would allow the most people to make it? 5:30PM? 6PM?
The Captain is staying in Redondo Beach (I'm not great with LA geography, but I think I have an idea where that is), but I guess it would be best for us to choose an area near the airport, since it seems like a few people are flying in and out and have limited time. So anyone have an LAX area restaurant suggestion?

OUCH.....$299 for a r/t from SMF that afternoon. the timing of flts would be perfect, but not the price. Sorry to miss it.
I could strongly recommend Second City Bistro in Old Town El Segundo. I have eaten there many times. Easy to get there from LAX.
Of course, you can also head south on Aviation or Sepulveda, to Rosecrans, and you'll have a slew of restaurants. Il Fornio, PF Chang's, and the like.
And if nothing else, I've had great food (true!) at The Encounter right in the middle of LAX. Appropriate place for a FT DO!
Have fun; wish I could be there.

What about the Proud Bird on Aviation Blvd.? You see it on final approach on 25L. It faces the runway and used to have speakers monitoring the tower at each table.
