"Someone stole my carry-on overhead spot"

What are yalls opinions on that quote? Since when do we have allocated "spots" for our carry-ons.. maybe I missed the memo...

This group of people were talking mad crap.... about how I put my 1 carry-on in their "spot"? Funny because they were talking another language, which I understood, and they didn't know I understood... oh yeah love when that happens!

No assigned spots per se, but if I see someone put their carryon above my seat in row 3 and then see them tromp off to row 45 and there's no room for my carryon, one of two things will happen:

1) "Comin' down!"

2) "FA, please gate check this item (row 45's) to the final destination of Nadi, Fiji (airport code NAN for your convenience)."

Overhead bin space is first come, first served and not coupled / assigned to the seats directly below.

That may be true, but this last two flights, I saw the FAs monitoring so that "drop and runs" were not occurring (i.e. row 45 dropping a bag in a FC bin and running to the back).

Were you sitting anywhere near them or were you dropping off a bag at the front of the plane and heading to the back?

Not that it matters as carry on space is not reserved but I could see them being upset if all the overhead space in the front is taken up by people in the back.

The difference of course is when people in the back are leaving, they just pick up their junk as they go by it. If people in the front have to store their stuff in the back, they have to wait for everybody to be off the plane, and then can go back and get it.

As with most of life, common courtesy and consideration for others will go a long way in these situations, however I recognize some people are are so self-centered the rules, written or unwritten don't apply to them.

There is a common misconception among infrequent flyers that the spot above their seat belongs to them. My husband almost got into a fight with a guy (EZE-MIA) who thought the overhead bin above his head belonged to him (we were sitting across the aisle). I kept telling him to get the FA to solve this. She finally came over and said that overhead bin space is not assigned.

Someone stole my seat in the lounge.

I was going to sit there if I hadn't stopped to get a coffee first, so I think I'm entitled to some compensation.

...but one should use the space somewhat close to them. No dropping the bag off at row 10 then heading to row 25, especially if board has just begun. If one is the last few passengers, that's ok.

Personally I do think the O/H space above the bulkhead rows should be assigned to the bulkhead seats since there is not any underseat stowage

Agreed. Also, like done on AS, the bulkhead seats should be boarded with the first group to ensure they have a space.

Talking

If there's one thing I've learned from this site it is that rules, respect, morals, common decency etc. do not matter. The ONLY thing that seems to matter is if there is some law that covers any action/behavior I may be partaking in. Absent any actual law (that one must first site to me AND prove applies to the particular jurisdiction I am in) I can and should do whatever I please.

Bin space is obviously first come first serve, but I think that there is proper etiquette that people don't always follow (i.e. hogging all the bin space or putting your bags at the front even when sitting much further back)

Correct but as spaceflyer notes, "it's the drop and runs" that need to be watched for
