NW/KLM codeshare advance seat assignments?
I've searched but only found threads from the 1990's regarding this, so wonder if there are any updates, or anyone has newer information...... Thanks in advance!
I'm booked on an itinerary from MCI-MEM-AMS (on NW) - MAN (codeshare on KLM), and then the reverse on the return.
Is it still true that I cannot get an advance seat assignment for the KLM flight AMS-MAN and MAN-AMS? I cannot do it on the NWA web site, or the KLM web site (where I log in as departing the Netherlands, and use the KLM conformation # found on my NWA receipt). Is there any way to get an advance seat assignment? (I did a similar itinerary last Fall, and ended up way in the back of the bus.......)
Also, I think I know the answer ("no"), but does anybody have any experience of FF status (CO Gold in my case) getting them any benefits, UGs etc, on KLM hops?
Thanks WP-ers!

Just call NW
If you call NW they'll be able to give you a seat assignment on the KLM hops. When I called they could not give me exit rows or bulkheads on KLM, but maybe I didn't try hard enough.
As far as I know there's no way to do it online.

Calling NW does not officially help; the best they can do is to put a note in the file for preference, but there is no guarantee you'll get what you asked for. Alternatively, removing any seating preference from your WP profile can provide better seating as this removes constraints when seats are assigned.
I've never been upgraded on KL, even if there is a small load (or no load at all) in the front of the plane.

Now, I've been on several KLM flights where they fly with FC basically empty. They always tell me my Fare class isn't high enough to get upgraded.

Did you put in your OP gold elite # for the reservation? If not, they may not recognize you as an elite passenger. Also, seats are only assigned 90 days in advance of the flight. You don't mention the dates of travel, perhaps they are too far out to get a seat yet.
Good luck

I wonder if this issue exists on KLM flights that are NW codeshares when the KLM portion is directly out of a US airport? Or maybe it's just specific to certain routings out of AMS (on which KLM may frequently substitute different plane types as demand dictates)?

I guess I'll just have to wait and hope for empty flights with plenty of seat choices still available!

KLM does not do (from what I have been told MANY times) intra-european advanced seating. For all others there is no problem (and if you look it is possible to do it on nwa.com).

Incidentally, I have had a few intra-European op-ups on KLM and AF, but only under the same conditions as the trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific op-ups -- economy is oversold, but there is still room in business class.

You will most likely not be able to select the P seats, however, and the exit row seats and many others are often missing from the seat maps there.
Remember, res.nwa.com and www.nwa.com are two entirely different systems when it comes to seat selection. res lets you select seats on KL and some other partner metal that www does not. www lets elites select exit rows, while res does not. Go figure.
