Hilton Grand Vacations at Waikoloa Beach Resort {US-HI}

GETTING THERE: AREA MAP BELOW: Queen Ka’ahumanu highway / highway 19 north from KOA airport, past the gaudy entry to Waikoloa Beach Resorts to the intersection of Waikoloa Beach Drive to your left (you want this one!) and with the Blue Hawaii helicopter base and Waikoloa Road on your right (and Waikoloa Village with the large, less expensive KTA Market and gasoline station, or up to the Hawaii Belt Road / Mamalahoa highway 190).

SHORTER ROUTE: Waikoloa Beach Drive is finally accessible at two points from the Queen Ka’ahumanu highway 19: the old south entrance 18 miles from the KOA / Ellison Onizuka Kona Keahole International Airport access road that leads one on a "U" shaped drive past Kings' Shops and Queens' Marketplace shopping centers, the Marriott resort and Hilton Waikoloa Village looping back eastward by the Bay Club and to HGVC Waikoloa "Beach" Resort, or the shorter, newer (inaugurated 2016).

The new north entrance (19 miles from KOA access road) is now a signaled intersection. Watch for the big Blue Hawaiian Helicopters base on your right and the convenient left hand / westbound entry to Waikoloa Beach Drive. After turning you'll drive past Kings' Land (both sides of the road) past the Waikoloa Beach and Kings' Golf Course and Club House (left) and past the intersection with "Maintenance Road" to the HGVC Waikoloa Beach Resort main desk and Kohala Suites on your left (gates are usually open during normal hours). This newly open route is cutting ten minutes or more from your Queen K. to HGVC Waikoloa Beach Resorts trip!

("Maintenance Drive" is your short cut between WVBR and Kings' Shops, Queens' Marketplace, the petroglyphs fields and the original south entrance.)

LONGER VIA SHOPPING CENTERS, RESORTS: VIA SHOPPING AND RESORTS: From same Queen Ka’ahumanu highway 19, 18 miles north of KOA "Kona" Keahole airport, west (left) onto,Waikoloa Beach Drive 1.8 miles to the Bay Club through stop signs, Kings' Shops (Shell gasoline station, petroglyphs trail), Queens' Marketplace and several resorts (Hilton Waikoloa Village at the end) looping so you're now traveling west).

TO OTHER AREAS: Continuing up highway 19 will take you to a split - left to Kawaihae and the Kohala Coast, right ten miles to Waimea (USPS insists on Kamuela, for settler Samuel Parker, but still Waimea to locals).

(From Waikoloa Village, continue east and turn right on 190 / Hawaii Belt Rd. for the highlands picturesque, cooler, more vegetated and often less congested route to Kailua-Kona; right to Daniel K. Inoue shortcut or left for the "official" highway 200 intersection to the shorter route to the east Hamakua Coast via Saddle Road / highway 200 (subject to lingering fog and occasional short military closures), or ignoring those on to Waimea aka Kamuela and the more often used highway 19 continuation to the Hamakua coast and south to Hilo.

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT: See this page from HWV

Robert's shuttle services - link 1-877-877-1222 (advertises $11-18 per person to Kings' Land, WBR, etc.)

CHECKING IN: Obvious, almost. For Kohala Suites, check in at the Waikoloa Beach Resort. But... to check in for The Bay Club, you need to proceed to the well-signed HGVC Waikoloa Beach Resort lobby, same as Kohala Suites. You can drive back to the Bay Club units using the interior access road, or use your key card to access the closed gates if you use Waikoloa Beach Drive.

Note: I'm starting this new thread because the previous thread has been inactive since 18 July 2013, and have notified the Moderators. My intent is to have a post summarizing the properties, similarities and differences, access (which changed drastically in 2016), links to resources (supermarkets and related options for the area, some of the fine or special dining, gasoline stations, etc.); build a Wikipost with that information so it can be edited and updated by the membership, and my updated review of the Bay Club (where we stay on the average every two years).

See below for more updated maps, resource links, etc.
