Do a web search comparing prices for a YOW vs Syracuse departure, especially for US Air, and you will see the price difference!

I guess you're right -- just did a SYR-SFO and found it for 286CAD vs. more than 600CAD on a fun fare. Pretty darn good. Just sucks you have to drive 2.5 hours to get the SYR and pay for parking...

As a reverse anecdote, my cousin and his wife live in Los Altos, CA (in the Silicon Valley). He flies either from San Francisco or San Jose International airports. My family lives in Vancouver. They always fly to Sea-Tac airport, and rent a car, and come to Seattle - they find it much more economical than flying on to Vancouver.

Conversely, my father (in YVR) is joining me in Hilton Head, SC, for March break. He will come via Seattle, where my aunt is joining him. His fare (incl taxes and fees) was about $CAN720, and her fare (including taxes and fees)was CAN$470.

Wouldn't it be longer to go to SYR than 2.5 hours? Its about 2.5 maybe even 3 from YYZ but he is coming from YOW. I would imagine he would be taking another route via Kingston/Cornwall?

You would get to SYR via 416, then 401 and take the left off ramp after Brockville I think. I guess I say 2.5 hours since everyone bolts down the 416 at 130km/h...

Car and Driver years ago said one of the fastest highway in North America, was hwy # 400.... {the hwy starts in Toronto and gos straight North}no kidding we are all rushing to get to our cottages. However NDP and Lib govt have put and end to any hwy construction so our days of fast driving are over.

And the Conservatives sold off the 407 for a song with a no-control contract. Let the private sector build "fast highways". One's gotta set priorities and health care and education seems to rate a bit higher on the scale than highways to cottage country for the idle rich!

Never thought about it! How long's their runway?

For a new airline starting up, we're really giving a lot of hints. . .

By the way, I am also seriously considering going through SYR. Here's a comparison:
YOW->TPA->YOW: $386
SYR->TPA->SYR: $202
LGA->TPA->YOW: $256 (thinking of making a weekend trip out of dropping someone off at Laguardia. It's worth it. . .

Carp Airport is currently being operated by the City of Ottawa and will be until 2007.

The runway is 4000'.

I doubt we will see anyone PAX traffic to Carp for quite a while. If someone operated a Ryannair model (of not landing at major airports but at airfields a million kms out of the city), then yes, there would definitely be interest, but until that happens, I doubt it.

USAir Express also flies from Ogdensburg NY (OGS).

It looks like they cover Massena (MSS), Ogdensburg, and Watertown (ART), and from Watertown fly on to PIT. So OGS-PIT is either 1 or 2 stops depending on the flight (OGS-MSS-ART-PIT or MSS-OGS-ART-PIT, I assume).

No idea what Ogdensburg airport is like, except small, but it's about an hour from Ottawa.

http://www.ogdensport.com/airport.htm I guess that's a B1900 in the picture?

Here's the fare lineup for my flight search to Tampa (mar 15-22, in case anyone cares)
YOW->TPA: $389
OGS->TPA: $300
MSS->TPA:$300
SYR->TPA: $211

It seems like definitely a great option when flying to places in the states. As far as intenational flights go, it just isn't an option.
YOW->LON: $731
OGS->LON: $874
YUL->LON: $616
SYR->LON: $562

Check out the wicked aircraft that flies from OGG and MSS to PIT:

I flew a B1900 a couple of times in my Lansing days (1996). It was kind of fun.

I'd have to sit in the front row, since I don't think my butt would fit down the aisle LOL

The B1900 is a fun little airplane. It is the largest aircraft that comes to my island operated by Continental Gulfstream.
I had the pleasure once of being the only person on my flight and had all 19 seats to myself... there is no FAs and no toilets on board, and boy when its a little windy between here and Florida, you can fell every gust

FYI, seats in row 1 do not have much more legroom than others.
