When are you Elite but not Elite?

Although I managed to get Elite status last year I didn't fly enough to be able to keep it. :-( When I log in to the web site or call Aeroplan my status is shown as being "member" level. However I'm flying with them today and my boarding pass still shows an "E" at the end so I had no problems checking in at the J desk or getting into the lounge even though I'm travelling in Y. Has this happened to anyone else and do you reckon it's likely to continue?

Thanks

JC

Did you purchase the ticket prior to your status loss?

In my past experience; status at time of booking is what shows on the boarding pass. It works both ways, you could show nothing when you are E. If you want it fixed (not likely in your case) you can call and ask them to re-apply you AP number and it will update.

JerseyCream, this has happened to people in the past and is usually a result of booking your flight prior to your loss of status. If it's due to another reason, then you should just keep it to yourself ^ AC staff are known to lurk here.

Thanks guys, yes, I did book it whilst I still had status. I guess some glitches in the system can be useful!

Unfortunately it was the last ticket I booked whilst Elite so I guess next time I fly I'll be back to good old "member" level again.

At least we managed to get a couple of extra trips to the MLL and skipped the long Y check in line though!

Yeah, you're lucky then. Usually they ask to not only check the boarding pass, but also your current membership card for the new benefit year.

This may not have been relevant in this case - but because of the delayed mailings of the Aeroplan packages to some of the customers (beyone March 1) - did Aeroplan allow the 2004-2005 benefit year to be extended well into March - so if one truly had a Elite memberhsip that was supposed to expire on Feb 28 - maybe this year it would not have expired until (?) March 31?
