Why can't they make their system like UA's Easy Update (probably money)?
With UA it's nice to get a real phone call, albeit automated, advising you of upgrades, schedule changes, delays and so forth. You can even tell the system not to call after certain hours.
SMS is too spammy for me.

I have given up as well.
My LGA-YYZ was cancelled and I still have not recevied a SMS.
I would rather pay the $0.01/kb roaming data using mobile.aircanada.com than trust the notification

Flight cancelled -- no notification
Apologies in advance, just need to vent...
Checked in online this morning, everything looks fine. Get to the airport this evening and find flight (AC 429) has been cancelled. Really annoying. I would have been willing to come in earlier and catch a different flight, if AC had just contacted me. Now I'm on the 11 pm flight and won't get in until after midnight.
Also, AC 429 (departs 9:30 pm) was supposedly cancelled due to weather in Toronto, but the conditions for the past few hours don't look that bad according to Environment Canada:
Sometimes I wonder if open flights are more likely to be cancelled than full flights...

There was red alert and ground delays because of T-storms, so even though the red alert is over, there's still a backlog. So no, your theory that this flight was cancelled because it was full is not true. There were 2 YOW YYZ flights that had to return to YOW due to the weather in YYZ. AC424 was cancelled so there was no equipment to operate AC429.

their flight notification system is very hit and miss....but I have had it work often enough to still rely on it partially.
one thing to keep in mind is that it will only send you a text message if your flight is more than 15 minutes delayed.

I once got a message, just before pre-boarding was about to begin, that my departure was delayed by 35 minutes. However, the GAs and everyone else didn't skip a beat. After we were all comfortably seated and ready to pull away, the captain announces on the PA, that due to ATC, we would be delayed, by 35 minutes.

I was on one of them (AC493). The captain mentioned the reason for turning around (after boring elliptical holes through the sky) was because we were low on fuel. Wait a sec, isn't that most definitely 'within the company's control'? I thought so too, and will start a fun new thread about it in a moment.
