Send an E-Mail to Monte Brewer...

In cases like these, an e-mail to Monte Brewer has worked for me in the past. Someone from his office has always responded and made things right. To the OP, you did nothing wrong, remember that and quote it often. As a premium customer you deserve better. And as far as I am concerned I do not make a distinction between AC and AP when it comes to matters like this by the way.

Quick update: Received a call from AP yesterday - they promised to refund my 30k miles plus taxes & fees. As for compensation, they offered me 5k miles and two 2008 SSWU. I politely rejected this offer and said that there must be a financial component - I earn enough miles & Upgrade instruments as it is and usually book J anyway. I didn't like this offer because I don't see how 5k miles and two certs equate to $1000. In the end, I had to pay $1000 in cold hard cash and want AP to share this pain.

The supervisor told me she forwarded my case to their exec team. Let's see what happens!!

Update: AP will refund the ticket I had to purchase (ca. $1000), refund 15,000 ap miles (which is 1/2 of the reward ticket) and they'll give me 2x 2008 SSWU certs. Case closed

Ditto.
Athough one would wish they would be graceful and make the proper offer the first time rather than trying to bargain people out of what in truth they are due. In this case, the refund of the extra ticket.
