Not to minimize the current global economic problems, but I've operated only 1 flight in almost 3 months, that had a few open seats in J/C - all on routes with non-reduced, and non-amlgamated frequencies....so I dunno

AC's probably in better condition than most overseas based airlines in that Canadian business has not been as badly impacted as yet by the recession. I has smaller J cabins to fill, and by adjusting upgrade-eligible fares ensures that it gets the max dollar out of every revenue customer flying in the front cabin, even if they're being upgraded.

The vast majority of the airlines J/F cabins are dramatically down in terms of paying passengers. For them it's an issue better not discussed- it's their premium product. After all, any marketeer would tell you it's much more satisfying to buy from a winner...

Problem is this is a global slowdown. Few markets have been spared.

Even the once-gloating LH, SQ and CXs of the world, not to speak of the EKs are now having a lot of tough marketing meetings on how to approach all of this without losing face. Some will opt to fill 'em up with Y pax, others (not at all aforementioned!) will play hard to get.

My last few flights to Europe were pretty sombering... sorry but AC is just as exposed. The only flag carrier I see a bright future for is my dear Alitalia :-) Anyone have a voodoo doll? :-)

Not a J/F cabin, but I had a look in the back on SYD-YVR the other morning, and I'm sure it's been 10 years since I've seen such an empty cabin. Spooky!
