I saw the iPad of the cabin crew on one of my recent flight and noticed the black NDPU sign near my name . So my purgatory stay is confirmed and extended . I don't really know why, as I didn't benefit from paid upgrades for quite a while.

I believe the algorithm considers as well if the status PAX is flying regularly J and F .

CDG-NRT (AF0246 Boeing 777-300ER - 14 hours) - Economy (N & K classes). Upgrade offers at online check-in to PE £280 and to Business £720. PE has 17 available and business has 25 available.

is this a good deal for upgrade to PE? Will a better deal be available at the boarding gates?

I think A GOOD DEAL is very subjective, to one person it can be to another not so much.

I tend to upg to J and I use the metric of 40-50€ per hour maximum if its under that I find it a good deal personally.... but many people pay double that for upgrades 😀

A textbook YMMV situation.
I know I wouldn't pay a single dollar for a premium economy upgrade, unless I am stuck in a bad Y seat.

It's unlikely price will get better though
