You fell for their marketing shpiel. You paid 800 for a 600 ticket and presumably there are some strings on the cashback and they will get to use that *extra" 200 on your next trip

I have spoken to Amex and they are saying it is a private fare but they cannot advise on miles earnings etc.
Next time if I use Amex I will consult the Platinum travel over the phone rather than using the website.

Don't worry, I've booked with amex travel in the UK several times and I always earned miles, this is probably a glitch. Have a look on AF website. (Nice offer, I had it too along with a 50 back for 200 spent on another card).
