Booking 2 award tickets from seperate mileage accounts( husband & wife)?

I just went through this with Alaska. Booked our return flights from MCO to San Diego with cash. I then went to book our flights from San Diego - MCO using miles. I had both of our flights in the cart but I was just a bit short with my miles, so I booked just my flight and immediately logged into my wife's account. The flight had gone up by 15,000. Oddly, the cash priced was the same though. I called the agent but there was nothing she could do.
