Anchorage to Whittier

Hi Flyers. Need your advice. Planning to rent a car from Anchorage airport to visit Denali Park independently before taking a southbound cruise from Whittier to Vancouver. Can you drop off the rental car in Whittier? If possible, how far is the rental car drop off point from the cruise port? If there is no drop off for rental cars in Whittier, what is the best to get to the cruise port? Thanks.

Yes, you can drop off a car in Whittier, Avis and two other companies are within walking distance of the cruise ship terminal (e.g. https://alaskaautorental.com/). Typically one way drop off charges are pretty expensive in Alaska but you could also return the car to where you rent it in Anchorage and take the bus or train to Whittier. Start at https://www.alaska.org/advice/anchorage-to-whittier to check schedules and prices.

Yea this year we just rented from ANC and returned it to ANC and took https://alaskacruisetransfer.com/ to Seward as a one way rental from Alaska Auto Rental was like $450-500. We did the cruise transfer with the Alaska Wildlife center visit and it was nice. Also you can call the cruise line and get on their bus from ANC to the cruise port.

I'd highly recommend that you go with what the cruise line offers - if anything goes wrong, it is on the cruise line to make things right. Anything goes wrong with your rental car, or with the tunnel, and you're cooked.
