US Airways and American - what's old is new

I found it amusing, as I was wandering around FT late at night, that the very first post in the USAirways legacy forum, from 1998, was about USAir and American FF members being able to combine program miles.

Here's an article on the agreement.

`We're repeating the 1980s here,'' when regulators allowed major airlines to eliminate competition by buying smaller carriers, said Kevin P. Mitchell, president of the Business Travel Coalition, the Lafayette Hill lobbying group for corporations.

If all the major carriers are allowed to combine into just three or four very large, noncompeting networks, business travelers will wind up paying higher fares, especially in cities where service is dominated by one group, Mitchell predicted.
