Agents No Longer Query Capacity Control
Over the weekend I looked to book flights 330 days out, purchasing coach tickets and then upgrading. In the past, AAgents would query capacity control, or some EXP members would ask them to query capacity control for upgradable seats if none were available. Quite frequently at 330 days, no seats would have been sold, so it was likely that a query would be answered positively.
When I was told that seats were not available, I asked the agent to query capacity control. She told me that shortly after the April 1, AA management told agents that they could no longer query capacity control to release upgradable seats.
This may change my practices of booking 330 days out, and I will need to rethink by strategy of obtaining upgradable seats.
(Moderators, I looked for this thread on both boards but did not retrieve such a thread-if there is one, feel free to combined this post)

Search for "QMAX" in the pre-merger forum. As you expected, it's heavily discussed. A sad cut indeed.

As American Airlines and US Airways are still operating as distinct airlines, and as this issue is being discussed in the appropriate AA Pre-Merger Forum, ease continue the discussion there. Search for thread titles with qmax.
Please note the sticky at the top of the consolidated thread which is titled Welcome to the New American Airlines Forum! PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING. With all of the changes about, it is important to know where to post, and reading that thread before posting (as the title suggests ) will help get you in the right place.
