AA schedule changes - free flight change / cancellation / refund

The latest change policy may be read here (Thanks to MRP Alert for resource link.)
The above link appears to be broken. The latest change policy, as of June 13, 2023, can be found here.

As of March 2022:
  • Limited changes allowed if schedule change is 60 minutes or less.
  • More flexibility if schedule change is 61 minutes or more.
  • Refunds on non-refundable fares typically require a schedule change of 241 minutes or more.

NOTE: The Detailed Fare Rules for your ticket(s) details refundability, etc. You can read (and print to PDF, etc.) before you purchase. Regardless of fare title (Refundable, Flexible, etc.) you should read these prior to purchase.

beachfan has shared:

I believe if it's an equipment swap, to a less desirable plane (I.e, 777 to 738) then yes, full refund, otherwise it's 120 minutes. One Mile at a Time blog covered this and referred to the contract of carriage (or whatever the linked document is called; it's titled general rules).

International Tariff (March 2023)

International General Rules

(III) RESULT IN A SUBSTITUTION OF EQUIPMENT NOT
ACCEPTABLE TO THE PASSENGER; OR
(IV) IF A CANCELLATION OR A CHANGE IN EITHER AIR
OR TOUR ITINERARY IS INITIATED EITHER BY AA
OR IT'S TOUR OPERATORS WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE
TO THE PASSENGER, THE PASSENGER WILL HAVE THE
OPTION OF CANCELLING WITHOUT PENALTY, OR
REROUTING ON DIFFERENT FLIGHTS TO/FROM THE
SAME OR DIFFERENT DESTINATION. HOWEVER, THE
PASSENGER MUST PAY ANY ADDITIONAL AMOUNTS
RESULTING FROM THE REROUTING.

I had changes for flights I had on hold for Feb 5 and Feb 10th as well. Thankfully AA was very receptive to allowing me to change those flights to a desired itinerary despite being on hold

Question for the hive!

I have a BA issued ticket, I used a voucher to upgrade JFK-LAX to F, I had a notification yesterday that the flights been cancelled for Feb25 but on AA.COM it shows the flight as available, not sure what's going on there, but the question here is can i ask for a total re route in F from LHR? the ticketed class is also F into JFK.

What are the options? Other airline in F cls like LH or can I try and find a route via Oneworld in F class to LAX, I do not wish to fly F direct to LAX on BA!

Any advice would be welcomed!

What is the whole itinerary that you originally purchased and what specific flights were changed/cancelled? It's not clear from your post.

First I would just give it a few days to let any changes fully flow through both the AA and BA systems.

If you don't want a nonstop to LAX, then there are tons of other LHR-JFK and JFK-LAX daily flights, I would just pick whatever works and ask for that.

Of course since you booked through BA you need to contact BA to handle everything, this is really up to BA's policy, not AA.

you need to ask in the BA forum, and specify whether they are awards or paid and who the operating carrier is.

Why dont you want a nonstop?

I think changes were made up until February 12 (I have a flight that day that was affected, but the following holiday weekend doesn't appear to be changed yet). I also randomly had a change to a PHL-DFW flight that I have scheduled for next July, so they made some far off changes as well.

Nope, that is not the reason right now. When is your flight? AA is not withdrawing F on transcons until it has a sufficient fleet of A321XLRS, which wont be for ~year (or more). There should be plenty of other JFK-LAX flights that day that feature F.

AA Schedule Changes

Im flying F from LAS-LAX-LHR in Feb 2025 with the LAS-LAX segment booked on AA metal. I had a flight schedule change a month ago and accepted the revised itinerary. I then had another schedule change yesterday which arrives in LAX too late for the last LHR departure. BA has booked me on the rescheduled AA flight but I was going to just sit tight in case an earlier flight from LAS was put into the schedule. No idea if there is any chance of that happening but I would appreciate anyone with experience of AA domestic scheduling telling me if its likely or not to happen. I just dont know how soon before departure these changes get locked down.

late Jan SEA-LAX — 1140am flight (paid F) cancelled; automagically rebooked at 602am (the only other nonstop option is 710pm, which won’t work because we have EI leaving at 815pm)

while I’m not unwilling to pay the $120pp fare difference for the noon flight on AS, I’m tempted to ask AA to rebook us in lieu of a refund

UPDATE: called the AAdvantage line this morning, agent put us on the 1200 AS flight in F (yes I asked her for the AS PNR to make sure the booking actually completed in their system)

There is a BA nonstop LAS -LHR, you want an earlier nonstop? Or does that not have F?

There is a7am and an afternoon flight las- lax. You want earlier than 7am?

Got a schedule change for 7/19/25 from JFK-BNA- LAX. Now on the nonstop JFK -LAX for 35k miles.

Strategy of booking lowest crappy touting for far out reservations in hopes of schedule change still working!

LAS to LHR is J only. The 7am LAS flight means we have a 7 hour wait at LAX for the flight we have booked. The afternoon flight arrives after the last LHR flight departs. We were originally booked on a midday AA flight that gave us 2 hours to connect at LAX which was perfect. That was cancelled and we were offered the evening flight instead. I am just hanging on in case a midday flight gets added to the schedule again but I don’t know how often timetable changes happen on AS domestic flights.

Had an interesting date that got schedule changed.

GRU-MEX I class, via MIA w 45 day stopover.
GRU-MIA time changed by 10 hours.
Original itinerary didn't allow a stopover city in JFK. Any chance I can now request?
