I had points under review signing up for the MB Amex 75k offer which was publicly available. The issue may have been a particular return to the account. However, within the required 3 month period all spent was done organicially.

The points were blocked for six month and I ended up filing a complaint. Within 10 days the account was cleared. I also received a letter that did not even remotely apply to my situation. I let that slide. I can transfer again...

I searched "SPG" in this thread and didn't come across any relevant info....

Has anyone had SPG points clawed back due to MS?

Thinking of signing up for the SPG Biz and would like to use MS to meet a portion of minimum spend requirement (maybe $3k out of $8k total needed for 35k bonus).

No co-branded card from AmEx has had a clawback, you should be safe.

Doubt they will ever do a clawback either, since the points are a liability to the co-brand company, not AmEx. AmEx doesn't lose money when you gain those points.

MR is obviously a loss straight to AmEx, so they review those.

American Express buys the miles/points from Delta, Hilton or Starwood.

It's kinda hard to pinpoint from various DPs here and Reddit about the specific triggers as far as minimum spend. I wonder whether any amount of MS at grocery stores (or other similar local stores) is safe. Do Amex reps actually spend the time to get copies of receipts from such stores (assuming these stores don't automatically provide level 3 data), or do they just assume you bought VGC because the purchase amounts are higher than average?

I was under the impression you could tell if the store was providing level 3 data?

For example, if I look at a recent Staples purchase on the Amex website, it shows exactly what I bought, $400 in VGC. However, on that same card, when I look at Hy-Vee, it only shows the amount, $505.95. Nothing about the fact that it was a VGC.

Spread over thousands of cardholders, there can't be that many coincidental purchases that end exactly in that amount without a vgc.

Discover put the onus on the cardholder to prove they didn't purchase a giftcard when they had the apple pay ten percent cashback plus double cashback stacking promotions

Guilty before proven innocent when no level 3 data was available

Personally I never just purchase VGCs without adding something else into the mix so as to not have the purchase amount be exactly that of 1 or multiple VGCs + activation fees. I assumed most everyone does the same, maybe not.

Are there data points of banks flagging transactions merely on the suspicion of larger than usual purchase amounts at local stores (that is in the absence of L3 data)?

I even gave you one. Discover did exactly that when there was 20 percent cashback on the line

I mean, everything is YMMV, but judging from the DP from the guy who had his MR clawed back from other cards he MS'd on, it was because he used a leaked link to cause a review of the account, AND had over $9k from GiftCardMall.com. Pretty obvious that is MS.

VS some large purchases at a Hy-Vee that doesn't provide level 3 data has to be harder to spot, especially without any red flags raised from a leaked link.

The reason I ask is because I just applied for a Everyday card, and had to call in to get them to review the application. I'm a little concerned I raised a flag on my whole account because they might review everything when looking at the app, but since i have only had my cards open 2-3 months total I feel like they can't assume I'm only going to MS the cards then cancel them next year.
Lending specialists and RAT are completed separate and have nothing to do with each other. When getting approved for a card they look at your relationship and credit report, and that's it. You must remember that 99.9% of people don't even know what MS is, and therefore it is NOT the norm and definitely nothing that's commonly thought of or assumed.

Got my 100k points on Jan 16. Went to make a transfer today...frozen. Called AMEX and got the normal runaround. Escalated call to supervisor who created a complaint on my account that will "get sent to corporate office."

All organic spend above and beyond $3k. Leaked Thanksgiving link.
