2017 American Express Cobalt (Canada)

Anyone heard anything about it? I have a friend that received it in the mail today, and apparently it will be coming out in a week. She mentioned there's some sort of Bonus MR each month (some spending challenge?)

Annual cost? Bonus MR? benefits? Difference between gold/plat and cobalt?

EDIT

Just an update:

These are some of the particulars of the new American Express Cobalt Card -
  • 5x Points for Grocery/Food
  • 2x Points for Travel/Transit
  • 1x Points on other purchases
  • Annual Fee $120, split into 12 months payment of $10/mo
  • It is a Credit Card, not a Charge Card.
  • Reward earned is in MR with no inflation of price on redemption, but transfer of points to aeroplan/asia miles/etc is restricted

All I saw is a Amex Card (Amex Cobalt), with a darker colour than platinum, but lighter than centurion. Apparently it's for "Food and Shopping" members. Just simply through assumption though, that MR will still be the reward point currency.

I'm curious to find out, because it looks very neat.

Some googling shows some videos by Notch Video on Vimeo.

Names were

Amex “Cobalt - Kai Dining” :15 // Submission For Delivery on Vimeo
Amex “Cobalt - Marcus Entertainment” :15 // Submission For Delivery ...
Amex “Cobalt - Trisha Dining” :15 // v2 on Vimeo

The videos have since been taken down but it looks like they're getting ready to release something.

Probably similar to the US Amex EveryDay with MR points and the US Chase Freedom, capturing the no annual fee market as they currently lack a card in that segment.

If travel is a feature I hope it'll be the first no foreign transaction amex in Canada.

So...5x groceries and dining, 2x transit based on the videos.

Not sure if travel (air fare hotel car rental taxi/uber) will be 2x or more.

Also this seem to be MR based, I wonder if it has the same access to gold/platinum transfer partners.

Just spoke with AMEX Platinum customer service.

Rep said that they are beginning to receive information and training material on this as of today. It will launch soon (99% it'll be next week as per rumours). Said that it earns bonus points on dining/transit/travel.

Rep said that it is a charge card, and that it will be MR based.

Interesting. Wonder what the partner benefits are, higher/better than Plat? Or no partner benefits, just lots of MR earning?

edit: Looks like this one: https://www.americanexpress.com/au/c...r-credit-card/
