Is OZ214 not available for award travel right now?
So I'm trying to book a flight to HKT from SFO in March 2014. United shows Saver availability in C on the outbound through ICN as well as the return through ICN. However, when I try to book it it gives me the ghost availability error as if the seats were not there.
If I select a return trip that doesn't include OZ214 then the availability is there.
What's weird is that the ANA tool shows availability in C for OZ214 for all days I'm looking at.
Any idea what could be going on? Could it be related to the recent crash?

i have no idea myself, and this is just a complete stab in the dark.
but would it have something to do with the practice of airlines to "retire" flight numbers that are involved in accidents?

They're still charging more miles for QS seats on redemptions, right? If so, and if perhaps they're not sure if SFO will continue to be utilizing QS aircraft or non-QS aircraft, perhaps they did the right thing and are pulling awards for the moment until they can figure out what to do. Or perhaps cut out some flights per weeks, etc.

I dont believe OZ charges more miles for QS Seats- but I could be wrong. That said in my own experience I was on a non QS flight- ICN-LAX on their 747 (non QS) via a United award ticket, and then switched it actually to OZ-SFO (flight 214) and it was the same exact number of miles. I think it is too early to tell if SFO will have less QS flights. There are still 5 or 6 QS 777s. More detail can be found under the thread talking about which routes have QS (just go to the last page or so). hope this helps.

using OZ miles, they charge more for the QS seats. Booking through UA is a star alliance redemption, so would fall under a different mileage redemption category than their in-house rules.
