BA207
BA207 cancelled again today 25/1/24.
Initially it was shown as delayed from its scheduled departure time of 10:00 until 15:30, then they posted a further delayed estimated departure time of 18:30 (would have made it 8 1/2 hours late) before changing the equipment to a 77W and then finally advertising its cancellation at 15:15.
What a poor way to run the business.
They should just retire their A380’s as they’re clearly a burden.

The A380's spend a long time on the ground during the day in JNB so they are usually able to make up any delays for the return leg and are usually on time.

It seems the LHR-MIA route suffers badly, perhaps the company needs to look at ground time for their stock on this route. There is zero chance of recovery.

There is not an abundance of widebody aircraft in the world - all the more so with Boeing's troubles likely to impair their delivery of new orders.
I'm sure HQ fag packets are being pencilled vigorously about cancelling an A380 rotation to free one up.

Yes, although it is probably easier to send people to MIA via various East Coast hubs or to other Florida airports than it is to get them down to Jo’burg, which is presumably why Miami takes the hit. Not that it’s any consolation to the hundreds of passengers inconvenienced on each occasion this happens…

Weird that it's shown as both BA1207 and BA9602. Anyone know why? I thought the BA 9xxx were usually positioning flights?
BAW9602 is the callsign. Any unplanned or extra flight on the day will usually have a BAW96XX callsign.

BA1207 is the flight number. Often used when 380 is downgraded to a 777 - a new flight number helps with automatic rebooking rather than the airport deal with hundreds of offloads.
BAW9602 is the callsign. Any unplanned or extra flight on the day will usually have a BAW96XX callsign.

It's even more strange that the A380 is the plane they've chosen to launch the brand new F suite and cabin reconfiguration. Surely it's not the seats that are the issue here. A refurb of the interior won't help the exterior.

If you look at the flight schedules for the A380 fleet then BA are trying to utilise them more than seems practical. The inevitable result is that when problems happen the schedule falls apart as there is no slack. They only have 12 A380s and more often than not one is in maintenance at Manila so any tech problems/delays/shortage of pilots cause problems. All routes seem affected but Miami does seem to be affected a lot - I guess due to the flight timings and rotation.
