The trouble with the A380 lately

If you look at the flight schedules for the A380 fleet then BA are trying to utilise them more than seems practical. The inevitable result is that when problems happen the schedule falls apart as there is no slack. They only have 12 A380s and more often than not one is in maintenance at Manila so any tech problems/delays/shortage of pilots cause problems. All routes seem affected but Miami does seem to be affected a lot - I guess due to the flight timings and rotation.
2 in Manila and another (G-XLEJ) has not flown for almost a week and appears to be sat in Heathrow.

Onboard the 208 Miami service which has just departed almost on time at 21:55. The earlier 206 17:30 service (which landed at 15:50) is still on stand with an unknown status. Might be delays tomorrow (

Worked this time… and a new first!
BA56 JNB-LHR left on time and landed LHR at 4:40 on 27L so short taxi. Brisk walk down the tunnels and In the CCR by 5:15 - and a new first for me - first passenger in the place!
When it works, it can’t be beaten.

My friend just messaged; he is on this flight. Delayed 5 hours on the tarmac due to an issue with the “engine monitoring system”

I will be on BA56 in early March (in CW though) and it seems that this flight is consistently on time. As someone noted above the a/c arrives from LHR in the morning and spends a whole day at JNB before returning to LHR in the early evening, so it makes sense that BA56 is not as badly effected as the A380 US flights.

Although to be fair, BA55 was delayed 40 mins one day in the last week and on time or early every other day so I'm not sure it's delayed that often.

It appears BA has managed to improve the situation with its A380s somewhat. Only one (G-XLED) has had a significant delay in almost a week. That was a 4 hour delay heading out to Dubai. It has of course had knock ons to the subsequent flights. Hopefully they have managed to get on top of some of the problems and the visits to Manila is starting to have a positive effect. Of course they still only have 9 of the family in work at the moment which will be having an impact on some routes that usually see them.

Got a friend on 207 this morning. Capt has come on and going back to stand due to...air con! G-XLEB this time. Hopefully this is just a one off thing.
