I had the same on Saturday afternoon, LHR to DBV. I thought it looked stingy, but was surprisingly filling (the green stuff ended up being avocado). The starter was a warming harissa-spiced chickpea, chicory, and mozzarella salad. (My partner had beef shepherd's pie...erm, cottage pie.)

Of course, it's not the size, it's what they do with it.

He didn't say which route.

Well, in the chaos yesterday evening it seems we got salads intended for band 3/4 routes on the evening flight to Newcastle - cheese and a starter! There was a veggie option but I don’t know what it was exactly.

It wouldn't bother me so much depending on the meal they removed the roll and butter entirely.

CE catering from LHR is often suprisingly delicious. The Do&Co facility at LHR must produce some of the best catering of any airport (the QR catering from LHR is J is also often spectacularly good, miles better than what you get from DOH). Sadly, the same cannot be said of CE from LCY these days.

A roll is optional, not compulsory. Removing it would mean that those who do want one, cannot have one.
