Quick Upgrade

Hi there,

just a quick couple of questions,

1) can you upgrade a flight using Avios or cash + Avios when it’s been booked as a holiday
2) if I book round trip flights (non holiday booking) using Avios and cash can I upgrade it using cash or a combination of Avios and cash closer to departure point ?

thank you in advance

Yes to all, on the proviso the original booking class is upgradeable. In the case of Avios, you need availability. And additional fees will need paying at the time on cash only flights, or with a BA holiday, the balance to pay will increase

Perfect thank you Mikefly,

is there anyway to check the booking class? Prior to booking so I can see if it’s upgradable?

It’s mainly around some very cheap Y fares. If going upwards from World Traveller Plus to Club, or Club to First then all should be eligible

Yes that’s the case. Excellent thank you. Do you think if there is award flight availability it would be cheaper to just book WTP then use Avios to upgrade? Rather than cash. I’m assuming one you book using cash plus Avios the upgrade cost using Avios would the same as what it would be if I just booked my desired travel class straight off the bat?

Not sure I follow? Perhaps give examples of the route / from which cabins to which and how you plan to pay / upgrade each segment?

So it’s 2 round trips both
LHR > JFK
JFK > LHR

1st trip I was planning just to book flights only with cash + avios looking to travel CW
2md trip was a holiday booking looking to travel CW so was thinking of booking WTP then upgrading after the booking

thank you
