Seeking advice: Use use Asiamiles or Use HSBC card points for this trip:
What you do? I’m not experienced with using miles or points for flights.
I have a HSBC creditcard. I think I can use 25K of its points to reduce the price of a $500-$600 USD RT ticket ( I think it’s RT) by $400USD.
So 25k points is worth $400 discount.
RT flight booked directly at cathay.com can be had for $560 RT,
(NYto Vancouver to NY). So $560 – 400 = $160USD I pay.
Or,
Convert 30,000 cc points into Asiamiles..
Seems like 30,000 points equates to a FREE economy RT ticket… (worth ? something less than $560.... because you seperately have topay taxes, fees of the tickets doing this method)
Also
30,000 points is worth $300 USD cash, if you cash out...
I can also save my HSBC points, route my Chase Utlimate Preferred reward points into Asiamiles.
so it's like $300 plus the taxes and fees for a RT from usa to canada....
as long as the fees and taxes for the tickets aren't equal or more than 260$, I would come out ahead doing it this way?

Just to be clear, this is a US-based HSBC credit card?
Bear in mind that you may also be able to route your credit card points to other FFPs which could be used to redeem the CX flight (such as BA Avios or AAdv). On HK-based HSBC cards there is currently a big bonus for converting to Avios, for example.

Well let's just do realisation per card point.
I see 17-24 Nov JFK-YVR-JFK R/T is US$564.76 on ITAmatrix (comprising $460 fare and $104.76 taxes and fees)
HSBC option: 25,000 points = US$400 disc
Each point = 1.6cpm
AM option: 30,000 points = 30,000 AM (right?) = US$460
Each point = 1.53cpm
HSBC option is better? But only by just...

Yes, it's a USA based HSBC CC.
