Please record data points in a structured form in this wiki (in addition to posting to the thread):

Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

The archived 2020 edition is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...-archived.html

Just closed my CSR. Twas a slightly bittersweet moment because I opened it the first day it was available, had to go in-branch and the banker didn't even know what I was talking about. I told him exactly what to do and I walked out a happy man. We had some great times, that old CSR and me, racked up a hell of a lot of URs.

Anyway, I called recon asked for offers, was quite bluntly told no dice, asked to downgrade to CFU, took maybe two minutes. C'est la vie. Slightly off topic, but I'm at 0/24, how long should I wait before applying for CSP?

Good luck with your retentions, everyone!

Agreed with mia. Quite a bit of discussion regarding this very thing in this thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...nd-95-fee.html

I downgraded my CSR to a Freedom on 9/21 and then applied for and was approved for a CSP on 9/26. Needed it quickly since I had some expenses coming up and requested it to be expedited via Secure Message on my Chase account. Arrived in a UPS envelope on 9/28.

I have called 3 times over that past week since my AF posted on Oct 1 for my CSR. All 3 times I was told there is no retention offer available for me. I have held the card since Sept 2016, with annual travel spend of $15K to $25K. Last 12 months is $20K. Very surprised that they are so firm on no retention offer. Not a big deal since I plan to PC to FF, wait 4 days, and then sign up again for CSR in order to get new 12 months of Pink and 60,000 points. But still, odd that they do not care about losing a customer.

I called earlier today since the annual fee posted on Oct 1st for my CSR. I asked them if there is anything to help reduce the annual fee or any retention offer but they said nothing available for my CSR so I went ahead to request a product change to freedom flex. The process was very quick and they seems not want to keep you as customer anymore.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Bittersweet. So many fun times, culminating in many thousands of Pay Yourself Back redemptions in the last 16 months (amazon gift cards at grocery stores).

Yep, and then the 4x on fuel points at some regional grocery stores to stack with retail GC's like AMZN. CSR still easily worth a couple thousand bucks for me to redeem against dining the next 6 months, what is the consensus on the AF these days $550-$300-$60 = $190? Are people really not crushing $190 on this with the 1.5x cash (PYB) redemption? I'd have liked a 1.5x "cash" redemption on some other cards in the past.

It would be interesting to see the Chase data on the CSR, I remember reading reports that at $450 Chase had a pretty high retention and renewal rate, however with how easy the $300 travel credit is to use (unlike Amex) it is very easy to see the card at a $150 price point. With the increase in the fee I think a lot of people are going to be canceling and downgrading, my renewal is in March and I think I will downgrade then sign up for the CSP (I am hoping the 100k bonus will be back by that point), however it will be interesting to see, Chase really needs to retain 4 out of every 5 card holders to be bringing in the same annual fee revenue.

I do agree with you where it would be nice if Chase did have this card as a $0.015 per point cash back option, that would make this way more valuable as dining and travel would at that point be 4.5% cash back.

The only report that I saw was after one year -and- all it reported was that the "account" was still open, which would be true even if downgraded to a less expensive card.

I mean yea, that's what has been happening since March 2020. If they always keep at least one respectable PYB category (gas, grocery, and especially dining), that benefit alone makes card is a home run at $190 per year, separate from the other benefits that are also nice. The CFU and CFF frenzy the past 18 months on SUB/Grocery 5x/Referrals has made it embarrassingly easy to stockpile UR and move to CSR for PYB at 0.015 cpp. At that point, it becomes essentially 0.015 same as cash with PYB offsetting dining.

Southwest Plus Card, signed up last year when they had a 50,000 RR sign up bonus for $2k in spend. Total spend on the card over the last 12 months ~$3,000.00, asked if there were any offers on the account quick answer of "no", transfered most of the credit limit to another card and closed the account, may review signing up for card again if they have another good sign up bonus when I am eligible again. As the AF had posted they said they could transfer everything but $1,069 to another card.

Chase Sapphire - had it for many years. Was not offered a retention offer. Kept the card. I am happier with it this year as it's gone to 3x on restaurants. It has always been our go to for car rental insurance.

Had a CSR for 5 years; called twice and did not receive an offer. Planning to downgrade but have gotten differing details from each rep in terms of timing and refund. Does anyone know for sure how long we have to downgrade in order to get full AF refund? I've heard 41 days from statement closing date from one rep, and 30 days from AF posting from another rep. I've also heard that prorating is based on a monthly calculation from one rep, and a daily calculation from another rep. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to wait for my $300 travel credit to post before downgrading. Thanks.

Had a CSR the day it launched. Got my parents involved too and they were so happy with the bonus and they ended up going to Japan (their first time!) in business class (first time!)

But the card hasn't kept up. I earn more points on flights with my Amex Platinum. My Amex Gold earns more on dining and groceries. My Hyatt Visa has been getting a heavy workout with it's 5k spend / 2 qualifying nights deal.

Sadly, the CSR just doesn't fit in anymore at a 250 net cost card. I called and in 2 minutes was downgraded w/o hassle, or even a hint of retention, for a Freedom Flex. And I was delighted to find out my Freedom Flex earns the same on dining as my CSR AND earns 5x in special categories for no fee? Paired with my old school Freedom card and suddenly I think I'll be earning more UR points via the 5x categories than I would have holding the CSR.

I still have an Ink Card for UR transfers, so I'm all set
