Delta Comfort+ FAQs
Delta Comfort+ - A New Domestic Branded Fare Product
Summary (effective November 14, 2015, for travel on or after May 16, 2016, in the U.S.50 and Canada):
No selecting C+ seats at time of booking. Eligible pax must request a C+ upgrade by checking the box in the UPGRADE REQUEST section or calling Delta. If upgrade inventory is available, DM and PM may clear after booking. If upgrade inventory is not available, you will remain in your C- seat until such time that DL either releases inventory, or it goes to the airport for gate upgrade.
GM and FO window remains the same at T-72 and T-24 hrs respectively.
Upgrades may automatically place you in any C+ seat, including middle.
F and C+ are separate checkboxes, so you can request an F upgrade without requesting a C+ upgrade. "Double upgrades" from Y to C+ followed by C+ to F are possible.
In your My Delta Preferences page there is a new box where you can choose the default setting for 1st class upgrades and C+ upgrade preferences.
Pax with a companion will be ranked for a C+ upgrade according to the highest level... ie a DM + general member companion in the same PNR will clear after booking..
Maximum of 1 companion may request a C+ upgrade. Per DL FAQ: "If you have three or more passengers in your reservation, all passengers in the reservation must have Medallion status in order for any passengers to be eligible for Delta Comfort+."
Amex Companion Cert flyers are eligible for C+ upgrades.
To "downgrade" to C- seats (exit, other preferred seats) you must call Delta.
Complimentary upgrades to C+, once on board the aircraft, are not allowed regardless of status.
C+ currently not available with corporate discounts, because C+ currently uses ticket designator /WCOM and corporate discounts also use ticket designators. A fare code can only have one ticket designator. This limitation is apparently temporary.
So far Delta is saying this does not impact upgrades to F.

I have two separate flights on May 16, on two separate itineraries. As a PL, I was able to choose C+ seats shortly after booking months ago, by going through the new rigamarole... Today I was notified of upgrades to F on both itineraries, at the upgrade window. So for those who were wondering if a "double upgrade" can happen, yes, it can.

Comfort+ seats no longer avaialble to Plats on award ticket?
I booked a domestic trip for this summer. Me and the family. Wouldn't let me book Comfort+ seats. I thought as plat we would still get that option.
Did I miss this in the new enhancements?
Is one of the FlyerTalk awards for winner of race to the bottom?
With the new god awful seats in the gate area in ATL, Delta has widened its already large lead.

C+ becomes a separate "class" after May 16th. You need inventory to "upgrade" to C+. The rules for travel companions also change for flights after this date, so you can either request an "upgrade" for yourself now or for yourself plus one to clear at T-24 IIRC.
There's at least one thread here discussing this change.

Remember after the May change you can be upgrade to C+ for free. You can't book it outright without paying extra miles for a C+ award.

Also remember that, after 16 May, everyone traveling in your group will have the status of the lowest-status person flying in your group. If you're a DM flying with your spouse with no status, you get to relive your upgrade glory days of status-less flying.

It says that DM and PM can choose C+ seats after ticketing. Well, the tickets are done, so why can't I choose them?
It says that you can select one companion, but also talks about if everyone is on the same PNR, the lowest status is applied. How can you select a companion for C+ when that companion is not DM/PM and the whole itinerary defaults to the lowest status?
And since I have 4 people, do I need to split the PNR 2 and 2?

Probably.
DM/PM traveling by themselves typically clear into WU shortly after booking if an upgrade to C+ was requested (i.e. make sure the box is checked) and can select C+ thereafter.
You can select one companion, but then the C+ upgrade request clears at the window of the companion.

If you are PM + 3 no-status companions I think you are SOL for getting all 4 of you into C+ for free.
What you should do is call/write Delta to complain about not being able to get at least one no-status companion into C+ at time of booking. It may not matter but hopefully they are measuring the response to this in some way.
But I couldn't really find much on the award portion. And it seems to be a bit confusing.

WHEN WILL MY COMPLIMENTARY UPGRADE TO DELTA COMFORT+ CLEAR IF IM TRAVELING WITH A COMPANION?
The clearance of you and your traveling companion for Delta Comfort+ will be based on the clearance window of the lowest level SkyMiles Member status in your reservation. If your companion is a General Member, you and your companion will be cleared no sooner than 24 hours in advance of departure.

Loyalty on DL is now only awarded to those spending $. Status is fast becoming not a factor when it comes to seating.
-Buy a C+ ticket, get access to SkyPriority checking, security, boarding. No Medallion status necessary.
-DM, PM, etc with a companion, good luck getting a C+ seat. Any DM who has bought a last minute ticket knows how difficult it is to get a C+ seat. Now with a companion I predict almost impossible. With FCM this means Medallions will not only ride in the back, they will ride behind the C+ seats.

Call reservations, its too much of a headache to do this manually. I recently booked award tickets for myself, my wife and kids to Europe in June. It wouldnt let me select C+ even for myself without incurring a charge, so I just booked regular coach and then called res.
When I called res, they split me and wife onto one ticket, kids on another. They then forced the C+ upgrade for me and my wife rather than wait for the stupid upgrade windows (kids are in non C+ seats right behind us if you are wondering). The agent had to escalate to their internal help desk to get all this done (might have been IT ?). What a pain. Took about 45 minutes of time.

Oops, nevermind. You are correct. I thought Plats and Diamonds could still get one companion for free on international flights at time of booking after May 16th, but that appears to be incorrect. The wording is not very clear in the FAQ's as it seems to indicate that the changes only apply to flights within US and Canada.
