You bring up something that it has shocked me I have never seen discussed on FT. The impact on cost of living from traveling for work. MY COL this year has been shockingly low, not only utilities, but food costs (since so many meals are on the road billed to client), gas for car (since car spends most of its life parked at airport), even just money I would spend shopping or whatever, I dont have time to do it so I spend a lot less. It is a nice by-product of this lifestyle. Truth if I didnt have a cat I probably could lower my housing costs to by not renting or owning a house and just staying in a hotel when I am rarely in town.
Cheaper to pay the 75.00 per flight and take your cat with you!

There is a joke that circulates on email ever once in a while (probably due soon) about instead of going into a nursing home....live on a cruise ship...it's cheaper!!!!

I think some of the perspective on this depends on the nature of your business.
I deduct all expenses for my travel, but as a sole proprietorship it still comes out of my pocket. My utility bills may be lower, but I make up for it in airport parking fees, dog boarding, and bribes to those who help get my son from point A to point B when I'm away.

New Holiday Inn Long Term Care Plan

NO Nursing Home for me! With the average cost for a Nursing Home per day reaching $188.00, there is a better way when we get old &feeble. I have already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn for a combined long term stay discount and senior discount of $49.23 per night. That leaves $138.77 a day for:

1. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in any restaurant I want, or room service.
2. Laundry, gratuities and special TV movies.

Plus, they provide a swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge, washer, dryer, etc. Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap.

They treat you like a customer, not a patient. $5 worth of tips a day will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.

There is city Bus stop out front, and seniors ride free. The Handicap bus will also pick you up (if you fake a decent limp). To meet other nice people, call a Church bus on Sundays. For a change of scenery, take the Airport shuttle Bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there. While you're at the airport, fly somewhere. Otherwise the cash keeps building up.

It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. Holiday Inn will take your reservation today. And - you are not stuck in one place forever, you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city. Want to see Hawaii? They have a Holiday Inn there too. TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem. They fix everything, and apologize for the inconvenience. The Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks to see if you are ok. If not, they will call the undertaker or an ambulance. If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.

And no worries about visits from family. They will always be glad to find you, and probably check in for a few days' mini-vacation. The grandkids can use the pool. What more can you ask for?

So....when I reach the Golden Age, I'll face it with a grin. Just forward all my email to: me@Holiday Inn!

She was the first TV star I saw when I moved to CA back in the 80's. We were eating in some restaurant in Beverly Hills and she was at the next table.
I ended up having to get my shirt and pants cleaned after that dinner. I was continually missing my mouth with the fork as I "subtly" looked at her out of the corner of my eye.
I'm sure Valerie remembers that dinner as it's not often you eat at a fancy restaurant in Beverly Hills and have a spastic at the next table.

I don't understand. Until closing, it's not closed. Threaten to walk away...actually walk away if you can or want to.

I can't even imagine. I know how many times I had to sign and initial and I don't live in a state where the state thinks it is there responsibility to protect, or warn, you about the sellers 2nd cousin, twice removed on her mothers side that is also....hold on never mind, I shouldn't slam your family like that.

While I don't think I have discussed this here, I am definitely aware of it. If you figured it up, care to share what you think it saved you? I have always considered that worth about $10,000 to me. The one thing that costs me more is that I tend to throw away a lot of food (IE Bread).

It is one of the reasons I figured out with the advantage of hotel programs early on. dawn
That is kind of unique to you. While the savings is maximized for singles, there are still considerable marginal savings for families (lower water usage, et al)

Well lets let the moderators and TB members know. And why did you suddenly decide this? Because there are probably 10 new AMEX threads on the DL forum weekly? fwiw, I stopped complaining about all the AMEX threads, I just ignore them. After I've read everything I want to here, I "Mark Forums Read" in the DL forum and that takes care of the threads that are still bolded.
