I found a new telephone book on my porch yesterday and I looked at it in the same sense of wonderment as I would have if someone had dropped a buggy whip or an 8-track tape player on the porch.
The telephone book went directly into the recycling bin.
Does anybody still use a telephone book and, if so, for what?? Since I'm always online, I can find info faster and more complete on the computer.
I don't think I've used a telephone book for 15 years. But maybe I'm the odd man out here. Wouldn't be the first time.

No alcohol on your flight?!?!?! Oh, the horror!! Glad you finally made it home. You could have gotten sidetracked with a hole in your plane!
OH, not only did both Freedom Air flights lack any alcoholic beverages this trip, but the 767 PSA-JFK ran out of toilet paper half way. They stocked the lavs with extra seat covers and those little hand wipe packets which are hard to open. And, in even worse catering news, neither flight yesterday had any Biscoffs onboard!

As always
I still use mine, it came in handy for finding a place to rent the jumping balloon for my daughter's birthday, it came with a coupon in it
Besides, I can always write notes and prices on the pages, and have all the information in one place

I attended a high school graduation years ago where someone on the list of graduates had the middle name of Tooktha and the last name was Pickles.
I awaited that person to be called, thinking it was a practical joke.
It was not. Nobody reacted. The person who was called up was real, and the name was real as well. I could not believe it.
For privacy reasons, I will not reveal the first name of this person, but I personally believe the parents were somewhat ajar at the time they gave this person a dilly of a name.
They must have had a chip on their shoulders to give a name that could potentially sour this person for life.

My van was rear-ended about 15 years ago by a guy name Shirley Swan.

On one of the public threads i posted this last year on Dec. 1 (2007). There are far more active members than you might think.
"So far in 2007, FlyerTalk has had some 1,879,187 posts. It's clear that we will easily pass 2 million posts for the year. That's a lot of posts. So far for the year, we've had 60,398 member being active, including 28,630 that have posted at least 10 times. That's a lot of moving parts right?"
We actually ended the year with 2,042,774 posts. i think at the time we had somewhere around 150,000 members (?) and so that would mean more than 40% of our registered members had actively posted last year - pretty good. And then factoring in the number of members posting more than 10 times. Anyway, thought these facts might be of interest to this conversation.

I'd think it well less than even 1-2% of FTers who now account for 80+% of FT posts, but I don't plan to waste any time trying to have that figured out more precisely again than in the prior statement which would not be invalidated with less than even 1-2% of FTers accounting for 80+% of FT posts.
I wouldn't be shocked if 1% of FTers account for at least 95% of FT posts.
.... which reminds me, has Randy P. posted here?

Used one just last month. My 3-yr old niece was visiting and needed a "booster" at the table. Fortunately, STL has a thick book.
How much compensation do you expect?
Welcome to The Lounge, Randy.

Interesting #s. Does the 60,398 "active members" mean registered members who logged in or only those who actually posted? Unlike most of the Lounge Lizards here (I'm not saying we can't keep our fingers quiet, but just look at the avg. post counts. lol), I would guess there are quite a few people who log in without posting.
On a related note, has FT ever purged their registered member list? Or ever considered it? I suspect the active membership %s would look even better if any members who have not posted or logged in in say 3 years was removed from the list.

Are there any threads on FlyerTalk that have a history of more unique FlyerTalk members posting to them than The Lounge™?
