It's received a LOT of wear and tear over the 2+ months it's been open and there were some maintenance issues that could no longer be overlooked.
I appreciate that the DL lounge is concerned with making the best place for us. It is nice they are kind to their employees. Thanks

Will there be a new thread after Midnight, Jan 1 for the new year?

Twice as long for Dov to get smacked in the face by women he is trying to kiss!!! (did notice he was leaving the UIG on the 31st, assuming this is so he is free at midnight to attack whatever he sees *smile*)

Next time I'm at a Norwegian ferry landing, I'll ask for some, probably without the hvale. I'm sure it's stocked worldwide.

I did manage to keep it down though, which was an accomplishment considering that I ate "it" rolling around in the lower (underwater) deck due to the rough seas.

Were the locals ordering and eating these, too, or did they all just watch with knowing smiles as you struggled to get (and keep) yours down?

Norwegians go ape over whale. (Think, gorilla!) Usually they're netted accidentally and die before (in theory) they can be released, it's a really big deal -- writeups in the local newspapers & everyone is really looking forward to chowing down. When a large one was caught recently in Εlesund (west coast, south of Trondheim), it even warranted write up in the English edition of Aftenposten.

In this case the "special" was on a chalkboard, in English as well as Norwegian, but the cook on duty was one of the few Norwegians who's not bilingual. Although I've relearned to read Norwegian, I almost never speak it (my only "conversation" the last few visits was with a Pakistani immigrant working in a Burger King who obviously hadn't been schooled in Norway long enough to learn English). Someone else helped out with the whaleburger order & then the ferry was about to leave so we rushed back to the car & drove on. I don't think anyone on the ferry knew what I was trying to eat.

Keep in mind that Norway is nation of people that runs on ice & eats lutefisk. What's a mere whaleburger in the greater scheme of things?

I also had a nice dinner of "reindeer, chinese style" at the Little Buddha in Tromsψ. A year later I read in Aftenposten that health authorities had cracked on the Lil Buddha for recycling unconsumed rice & pop.

Did anyone see the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode a few weeks ago where Larry David was stuck in a ski-lift chair for hours with an orthodox Jewish woman? As time went on, they got hungry. Larry reached into his pocket and found a pair of "edible undies." How they got there is another story. He proceded to consume the undies in front of the woman. She declined when he offered to share. It was a great episode.
