I had no flights booked for this month until I just booked this one. Since going 7 weeks without flying was just too much, action needed to be taken immediately (especially since I'm driving to Omaha next weekend)

Istanbul -- priceline not available, Hilton & Marriott too expensive, so I started reading hotel review from the cheapest up until I found a good & cheap ($85 /night) hotel. With 6 a.m. departure, will nap at airport on last day.

Warsaw -- spend real $$$ for inexpensive Hilton

Vienna -- Hilton points

Berlin -- Priceline
Every city can be different. I don't recommend automatically relying on Priceline until one has evaluated the alternatives.

I normally won't do Priceline on a first visit to a city...guidebooks are great, but on the first visit I just like knowing exactly what property I'm in. On subsequent visits, I'll look into it. For example, with London, I have no problem with Priceline.

Oh, and I just got carded for my beer on my flight. First time that's happened in my last 300 flights or so...

In Berlin I found that I could get the Westin or Hilton for around $110 (and did) using BRG's.

I look at 1800hotels.com and they usually (for some reason) are a bit cheaper than the SPG or Hilton websites.

I tend to use hotels.com as my starting point and have gotte some good deals on there (Hilton by Piccadilly for USD70/nt last year). Will have to look into 1800hotels.com

I use Kayak versus one booking site and then double check 1800hotels. Kayak gives a good search of the major sites & usually will display the rate from the corp site as well.

Awesome tips, thanks

I will look into the IC, see if the rest of the gang going is willing to dish out the cash for the hotel.

The Warsaw Hilton is realitively new and very nice! Location is a bit off the beaten trail, though.

I've always started with Kayak - too bad Wyndham changed their best rate guarantee, as I liked free hotel rooms.

I'm going to Madrid for Thanksgiving weekend on the DL special... any suggestions for good but not expensive hotels in the city center? I am beginning to look for places to stay. I would like to stay in an area so I can mostly walk or take easy public transportation... amenities like wifi/internet, breakfast, etc would be a plus but not required. Has anyone any info about the Best Western Atlantico?

Trip Advisor has it #1 of 494 Madrid Hotels so that is a good sign.

I did notice that... but have not really used TripAdvisor before. Is it a good guide to the hotel?

I've been Pricelining the Marriott (just off Potsdammer Platz) for $77+ to $89+ this year.

Since it is user review based I usually go to TripAdvisor when looking for hotels in cities I have not visited. It is probably one of the best resources. With 700 reviews for that hotel, you've got a good sample size.
