I have been in this hotel several times ... last time in August 2010.
The hotel is OK. Very friendly service. It's not in the city center ... near a conference center ... and near Autobahn to Metz, Reims, Paris. You can take the tram to the center. I always found a parking place on the street. Lufthansa Bus stops in front of the hotel.
CORRECTION: I have stayed also at the HI. It's next/near to the Hilton. It's OK, but the rooms are little dark, little worn out.

You are describing the Hilton as an o.k. hotel with friendly service?
The HI which is close/near to the Hilton, you are reporting as o.k.
as well, but worn with dark rooms?
