Reward Nights are Changing from 18 January 2012

My dad received his January statement from PC stating rewards nights are changing from Jan 18, 2012.
The link takes me to the standard Rewards Page. Looks things have not yet been updated so no details there.
Hope there is not a devaluation.

Assuming that this is correct, then the only change they are likely to make is to devalue the points. I hope not, but wouldn't be surprised given the amount of points they gave away last year with the CTC promo.

Interesting.
I would venture it's some combination of the following:
a) an across-the-board devaluation
b) an addition of higher categories (e.g., 50K ICs)
c) the creation of point tiers, moving away from brand-based award costs

At any rate, not likely to be good.

If it's a major devaluation, it would be appropriate to throw IHG's words back at them: http://www.ihgplc.com/index.asp?PageID=116&NewsID=2421

Any particular indication to make you feel that?

Lately on Points, the number of people receiving benefits have increased. I have also experienced this.

Wishful thinking!
I'd also would wish this is true, but I have no experience/indication that IHG would go that direction!

To support this, I have usually received all/most Plat/Amb bennies on reward stays. The latest:

3 nights on points at one of the EDI HI's over New Year's - upg to mini suite ^

But of course this doesn't mean that IHG won't opt for "enhancing" the program by e.g devaluing the points

Hopefully they also let award nights officially count towards elite requalification.

Devaluation

OK. Devaluation as expected.

Crowne Plaza will be 25,000 or 35,000 points/nights vs just 25,000 until now.
Indigo - 25,000 or 35,000 vs 25,000 until now.
InterContinental - another 50,000 points level.
Holiday inn - another 20,000 points/night level.

So no more cheap 25K CP NYC

Well, I stand corrected then.

So might this explain the removal of Flights/Hotels Anywhere? Certainly it would be an effective increase in their value if ordinary hotel redemptions are to be devalued.
