Ambassador free night enrolment offer is coming back (buy till Jul 31, 2021)

The info was first leaked in a Chinese FFP forum a few days ago:

And I can confirm that Ambassador's terms & conditions are now reflecting the new offer.

InterContinental Ambassadors who enrol in the programme or renew their programme between 15 April 2021 31 July 2021 and then complete one Qualifying Stay at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, or Regent Hotels by 31 August 2021 will be awarded a Reward Night redeemable for a Reward Night priced at 40,000 points or less.
Virtually the same offer as last time, however with the recent devaluation it's gonna be harder to find a decent 40K hotel to redeem the free night.

Thanks for the info, the time frame is still too soon for my liking. Personally, I'll consider it if the period for stays that count to qualify is until end of the year. Maybe they'll run it again for Q3 / Q4, we shall see.

Thanks. Was wondering if they were going to repeat this.

I'll bear it in mind for if and when I decide to renew my AMB as I do have some stays planned at both ICs and Kimptons by the end of August (fingers crossed) and can then use the voucher by the end of November.

Maybe I'm not seeing it but can the free night be used at any IHG hotel or just IC, Regent and Kimpton?

The free night certificate can be used at any IHG hotel but only if it is bookable at 40000 points or below.

Last year it was $200 or 40000 points. I used the points and then used my 40000 cert to book the IC in San Diego which you can’t get for 40000 points anymore. At least now.

I have an upcoming BOGO Ambassador cert stay at the IC San Diego which would qualify me for this but like others have said, 40000 points aren’t what they used to be.

IIRC, IHG refused to extend the validity of the certificate from the prior iteration, even though many of us Brits were subsequently locked down and unable to use it as planned. YMMV...

To be fair they are not obligated to do anything. And I know quite a few people who got back some points in compensation after complaining.

Most certainly they are not obligated and I don't believe that I suggested otherwise... but it's a data point for the next round of potential customers tempted to sign up for something that has a very limited lifespan.

Well the weird part for me here: My devaluing points they made me dump a bunch on an upcoming stay. So I have the qualifying stay already booked.

So now to renew, 40,000 pts = ~$160 value
* a 40,000 free night, but need to use soon? Maybe $100 in value?
* the new weekend night cert, which we all know is worth well under 1 nights value. Maybe $75 in value?
* renewed ambassador, perhaps worth $50 if we're being honest?

I normally would've done the $200, but the points devaluation makes the value of the 15K points just around $60... so now it's $160 vs. $140 and in the case where I spend money... well, I'm spending money. So renewing with points seems obvious yes?

Is an award night (points or Chase free night), considered a qualifying stay to earn the free night ?

I thought about this, but the thought of going to stay in Boston with COVID still rampant and pay $30 plus for parking and pay an amnetity fee to Kimpton or just pay a higher rate to stay in an IC to get a 40kcert that expires so soon makes no sense. If the cert lasted a year, I would bite. But November expiration??

How Do You Renew Ambassador Before Expiration of Current Membership?

My 2020 membership expires on August 1, 2021 and I am not seeing a way to renew it on IHG's website. Any chance I am missing something before I revert to calling IHG? I'd like to take advantage of the promo that starts today and then book my BOGO stay for June travel.

Thanks!

It generally appears around three months out I think. My membership expires on July 1st and noticed that it was showing to renew last week when I made a few reservations. Until it shows online I think you would have to call and ask them to do it manually

Thanks for that; now that I did a re-read of the T&C from the OP's link, it looks like I do not need to renew for 2021 before booking my Qualifying Stay (in other words, I can book the BOGO stay now, renew my membership before July 31, and the first night of the stay will count as a Qualifying Stay for the promotion).
