Yikes! Very good catch. I wasn't thinkng in terms of the first day as being one of the 7. Glad you caught this as I would have been a bit embarrassed causing a scene when they wouldn't let me on the Narita Express

Well, you could get the 2-day Area Pass instead of the 1-day but really, if you are going to stay "local" that first full day in Kyoto, you won't need it. I'd just save the money and use it to get a prepaid bus/subway pass instead. The Area Pass only helps you if you will be using JR trains to go outside the city.
