Adding to this. The fact that the MGM + Marriott terms break out each program's reservation system and rates would indicate Marriott was not going to match MGM rates. Marriott understands casinos have other incentives for comping or heavily reducing their room rates.
I do wonder if there will be loopholes. Example: Booking originally MGM rate, then booking a Marriott rate, asking the front desk to extend your stay in the same room merging the MGM reservation into Marriott and earning EQN from the MGM night. From what I understand the hotels will have their own reservation system and Marriott would get the folio from them.
Same could be said from booking a Marriott stay, asking front desk to extend your nights directly, and whether or not Marriott would honor those extra nights

Marriott already has this figured out. The BRG policy will mimic that of the Design Hotels. BRG claims can't be made against rates found on the Design Hotel's websites, however they can be made against 3rd party OTA's. The Marriott BRG policy on MGM hotels will follow that.

The hotels do. The agreement Marriott has with Design (and I assume MGM) is that they must offer Marriott the lowest available rates that they'd offer any other OTA. If they break this agreement, then the BRG comes into play.

You don't think MGM would have any objection to monitoring third party rates so that Marriott can fulfill a guarantee to it's loyalty members? I don't have any inside info but I can't imagine MGM would be willing to do this when they don't have a BRG themselves.

I just checked and MGM used to have their own BRG program but discontinued it in August 2022. I agree with DallasEsq that they won't want to pay penalties to Marriott for successful BRG claims. I think all the MGM hotels will likely be exempt from any BRG at Marriott but time will tell.

Absolutely not. They agreed to this marketing partnership and all the rules associated with it. Marriott wasn't going to get into bed with MGM unless they were giving them access to the lowest rates available amongst all OTA's (minus MGM's own booking channels). This partnership is worth upwards of $70M to MGM - they're going to make sure they're fully compliant. And also keep in mind, the discount off the room for a successful BRG will be a measly 25% if a lower rate is found. MGM often lowers their standard rate by 30% as a bonus to their MGM Rewards Members during their standard sales (like they're doing now). They could care less if they have to eat that 25% discount on a $45 room rate (Resort Fee of course, not part of the equation so that won't be reduced).

I got this from my ambassador, although it seems to be slightly contradictory regarding getting credit with MGM before things go live on the Marriott site.
"The rest of the properties will be progressively added in our system starting with New York - New York Hotel & Casino, MGM Collection. By the end of the first quarter of this year, is expected to have all MGM Collection property available for booking.
Meanwhile, if you wish to make a reservation at any of these properties, you can contact MGM resorts, and make the reservation with them, and at the time of the Check-In you can provide your Marriott Bonvoy Number to the front desk to earn points and elite nights from your stay."

And it gets worse. New York-New York is bookable. Booking through Marriott for upcoming weekend (Feb 2-5) is $626.99. Booking through MGM while logged in is $554.37. The difference is because MGM is giving everyone with an MGM account a 15% discount.

Well, if you're Platinum and above you're losing the $45 in f&b credit by booking with MGM, or 1,000 whole points. And the promotional 2PM check-out, if it's available

Unless you really need elite nights or you're Ambassador, I don't see a reason to book through Marriott.

"Members who hold membership in both Marriott Bonvoy Loyalty Program and MGM Rewards Program can choose to receive the benefits of, and receive earnings from Qualifying Charges from either program, but cannot concurrently receive the benefits of, nor receive earnings from Qualifying Rates and Qualifying Charges to both. Marriott Bonvoy and the MGM Rewards Program are two separate loyalty programs; therefore, accounts may not be merged."
As a current MGM Gold booking price -
March 3-7th NYNY stay is $490 (removing resort fee & Parking) including it is $658 (parking not included)
Marriott Titanium Price is $712 (resort fee included & Parking not included)
Welp, Vegas becomes much more expensive for us Titaniums. Won't ever get to MGM Gold because the benefits are not worth it.
