No there is no status match from Marriott to MGM, especially for Marriott Plat to MGM status.
Check the table in the wiki at the top for the selected subset of benefits that you may receive from your Marriott Plat status.
Whatever happened, MGM decided to upgrade you to their Plat status... maybe from recent visit and spend or credit card etc... but that is far superior than any benefits you'd get from Marriott status at an MGM property. Even MGM Gold is better than the benefit subset you get from Titanium.

Don't worry, you're not missing out on much if anything. MGM barely upgrades their own elites unless you're a Noir. You'll be lucky to get a 'strip view' room or anything higher floor. Main benefit I saw at MGM Grand was that there is a sign that states Plat and Titaniums can use the Gold Lounge for check in and to get waters.

If you mike a poor decision and book Excalibur, does MGM upgrade their own elites to another property that isn't gross while Marriott elites are stuck there?

You could probably count on one hand the number of MGM elites staying at Excalibur at any given time, especially now that you can't get Hyatt elite nights there. They'd probably comp the enitre property for a Noir if they asked nicely, title and all.

The initial PR mentioned exchange between marriott points and mqm rewards points, but no further information has come out that I'm aware of.
If this happens, I would not expect the exchange rate to be beneficial at all. Remember, 1 MGM rewards point is worth 1c for comp so it translates directly to cash value.

Waiving of Resort Fee for MGM Platinum
If I book at an MGM property with Marriott points, can I present my MGM Platinum card at front desk o waive the resort fees, or do they not honor the MGM tier status for stays booked with Marriott points?

Probably not. When MGM was tied up with Hyatt, you still had to book through MGM channels to get the status benefits (though Hyatt status was matched to an MGM status, and you still could get Hyatt elite night credits). Marriott is much less integrated with MGM than Hyatt was, so I would expect it would be even harder to get recognition without booking through MGM.

Good luck with that...it's Vegas, they deal with jawboning DYKWIA types all day long and they have figured out long before you arrive if you are worth knowing or not, but please report back.

What I would do is book the first night or two through MGM, and the rest through Marriott. Maybe they will give you an upgrade initially and then just let you keep the room so they don't have to clean two to make you switch. I don't know if that would work but that's what I would try to do.

Even for longer stays (2 wks+), the front desk will sometimes ask if you'd like to change rooms to have a different view and not get bored of being in the same place. So it really depends on who you get and in my experience, if you're nice about it.

Does anyone have recent datapoints on if hotels paid for via Amex Marriott card get points? I stayed at the Cosmo earlier this year prior to the MGM merge and got 6x points on my stay. Also, I had a booking from earlier this year that I recently cancelled and it shows 6x points reversed. However, I don't know if that's because I cancelled a previous reservation or if it's just Cosmo being already coded in the system. I'm staying at the Aria soon and want to see if I should use a different CC.

I just finished a Cosmo stay and had to email my ambassador to help get points/nights to hit my account. I think the hotel is still working out some kinks. Would reach out to Amex or Marriott as you should get 6x points on the stay.
