Most likely not that many. Although the fare was low it was not shockingly/amazingly low. I bet many have considered it twice before forking out 1000+ USD for a BA ticket... Also the travel period was quite limited as I recall it.

Would be interested to learn if anyone successfully rebooked the return flights from CPT-JNB-LHR to the direct CPT-LHR service?(after traveling outbound obviously).

Happy to report we just finished a wonderful 10 day family vacation and there were no issues with the flights whatsoever.
Was positively surprised by new cabin setup despite flying out of Gatwick!
Thanks to the OP!!!

I tried to rebook CPT-LGW to CPT-LHR but it’s quoting me £3k (even after flying the outbound).

No hesitations here - the £800 I paid is well worth it considering this fare will earn me a total of 50k Alaska RDMs. I’m very happy to pay £800 for error fares if it makes airlines more likely to honour them (unlike the £400 BKK-CDG AF fare which obviously wasn’t going to be honoured)

Noted. For my return date in early March there is only expensive fare classes open (R and above) for CPT-LHR so even if rebooking was possible, the fare class (I) is not available as it stands now.

Just returned from my flawless CPH-LHR-CPT return. Managed to book direct LHR flights with Club Suites in both directions (B777 down, A350 back) so super convenient.

Checked date changes for my return flight and was quoted 4000GBP fare difference.

Flew the inbound last week. Both LHR-CPT and CPT-LGW were completely fully booked, not a single seat left for sale in any class.

BA is quoting me approx the same amount to change CPT-JNB-LHR-CPH to CPT-LHR-CPH I inquired after traveling outbound and was expecting historical prices to be applied, but maybe because it is a reroute, recalculation of the fare is unavoidable?

Are you sure you looked at the number correctly? It should be 9029.

BA has moved to spend-based earning. Alaska gave me 21k miles for the same segment (15k without status bonus)

Forgot about that. I have been crediting oneworld flights to AA this year.

Any estimate if crediting to AA? (I have an old AAdvantage acc but not used for years, i.e. no status).

AA credits BA flights based on fare, so it would be similar to what BA gave you.

Yup! They switched to this a few months ago, unfortunately, so they would receive 5 miles / loyalty points per dollar on the base fare + fuel surcharge. You'd receive around 4725 AA loyalty points and redeemable miles.
