applying for a chase credit card a week later

Hi All-
I haven't applied for a credit card for years till last week for the BA 100k Chase Visa signature card. According to CSR, things are looking good and I should be able to call on Monday or Tuesday to overnight the card.

Oh, just called now and said my BA card has been approved.

I would like to apply for the Continental 50k also by Chase bank before May 15, 2011. How likely is it that I will be approved? I have excellent credit score.

The only cards I have with Chase is the UA and now the BA to come.

You will likely be denied. However, Chase is really good with reconsiderations. If you get denied, just call in and offer to adjust your credit lines or close an older card.

YMMV, as always.

Thanks. What is YMMV? I keep seeing it in the postings.

Do you think i will need to temporarily lift security freeze again since they already have my credit report pulled this past Wednesday?

Your Milage May Vary - your experience may differ.

They will almost certainly do another credit pull.

Thanks Red River.

Sorry but am a novice...when you say mileage may vary, do you mean when I click on link for the Continental 50k bonus miles that I may not possibly receive 50k but a different mileage bonus than others?

Hang in there metoo...

There are those who post often bere on FT who think
everyone should be as proficient as they are in "knowing the ropes"...
so to speak. However, their experiences are most helpful.

Their use of acronyms and abbreviations shows that...
and they often forget that there are many. many more who read FT
and do try to understand, but never ask the good questions as you do...Good for you!

RE the applying for the Chase Continental card...
What have you to lose? Go for it!
If you get turned down, call and ask for reconsideration.
All they can do is say no...and you tried.
If you do get approved, you have an added 50,000 miles.

HOWEVER...If you are going to buy a car or house soon...
it may be best to avoid "credit report pulls"...as too many pulls they
could hurt your chances of real credit when you need it most.

Good luck!

"YMMV" is just a play on words from a statement often found (at one time, maybe not anymore) on car advertisements and window stickers. You know how they state the official EPA gas mileage ratings? Often there would be an asterisk with fine print stating "your mileage may vary" or "actual mileage may vary depending on driving habits, etc, etc". At some point it became an internet acronym meaning that the poster can't guarantee you wil have success, or the same results, etc.

The poster just means that some people may get approved in similar circumstances, others may not. Hence, while advising you to try, the poster is advising that they can't guarantee you will have favorable results.

You'll find a lot of gray area things in FF world that one person will get outcome A, another outcome B, and still another outcome C. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason that we can discern from the information available. In those cases it's up to each of us to either give it a go, or not, and see what happens.

I applied using the link . I called 888-609-7805 to ask if i need to lift the security freeze again since they pulled up my credit report last thursday already. She said they are systematically reviewing it.

I asked if this is for the 50k miles bonus or not since I used a link ( the one on the first page of Continental CC 50k) and she said she didn't know. When i did a google search for the continental credit card 50, 000 , nothing came up but for 30k only.

I thanked her and will talk to another CRS who may know something more as she keeps telling me I will see something in the mail in 30 days.

Using the link on the original post will work for the CC 50k miles, as long as that link still say 50k and not 30k. I just check the link and it is most certainly still for 50k.

I'm in the same boat as I applied a week ago and application was "pending" and said could take up to 30days for a decision. I did call CR and they said nothing they could do now but wait.

As others have explained, YMMV is simply expression to say, "what may have been true for me won't necessarily be true for you." It's not connected to the mileage bonuses for the credit card, and you will find this expression used in many connotations on FT having nothing to do with miles.

However, now that you mention it, are you sure Continental still has the 50K bonus around? I signed up for it just before it went away, and now see the standard 30K + $50 credit.
Just to let you know, if you do get the 50K, you won't get any additional bonus for adding other users onto the account, nor will you get the $50 statement credit, through there have been people on FT who have requested and received the $50 credit. I requested it and was denied.

A Google search today pulled up this still active link for the 50,000 mile offer: http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...px?offer=OPP50.

I just spoke with CSR. It seems like they are able to use the credit report pulled up on last Thursday as they are in the "systematic processing stage'. Otherwise, i would have been told there is a credit report freeze so i would have to lift security freeze.

I am interested in the 50k bonus miles and 2 UA or Continental airport lounge passes per year.

I will call back tomorrow......how sweet it would be with approval of BA 100k and Continental 50k...It has been many years since I applied for a credit card.

Well you could get denied AND start the clock rolling on how long until they approve your next app. I am about 120 days out form my last chase app waiting to apply for the Hyatt Card, I may get approved now but I may not so I am going to wait the 6 months and hope they don't pull the 2 free night offer before then.
