Starting some major traveling want to earn the most
I am about to start doing some big business traveling, work for a major corp and will be expensing but can keep all my own rewards for personal use. This is new to me. I want to be sure to earn as many rewards and miles as possible to use for family vacations, etc. Can I get some quick advice please?
One corporate person said since we are in houston and are near CO head I should go with CO Chase. Is this good advice?
I will be traveling mostly US but some international like next month to Scotland. Thoughts from the professionals please?
(was told that as off a date coming soon, AMEX will no longer allow miles to roll from CO so I was adviced that AMEX would not be a good option for me.)

perhaps you could consult your crystal ball and post trip info like what cities & how often....include usual vacation trips....company fare restrictions...
also, sign up for the ff program of all airlines you fly, but consider only1 in an alliance...

What you are asking for is very broad in nature. You have three primary types of earning opportunities:
1. Airlines Miles from Flights Taken
2. Miles / Points from Hotel Stays
3. Miles / Points from Spend
Although Houston seems like a CO/UA lock for item 1, maybe you should look at where you will be traveling to and verify what airlines serve those markets. Maybe another airline would be a better fit.
Does your company have any affiliations or preferences for hotel chains, where you will be 'encouraged' to direct most of your stays? Again, consider where you will be traveling to, and what hotel chains serve as many of those markets.
After you figure out 1 & 2, you can then start to work on 3. An SPG Amex card may be a good fit, particularly if you can manage to stay at SPG properties. SPG has good redemption to airlines (except CO/UA which is 2:1).
A CO Chase card is a good card, but it does not have the best earning potential. If you are already going to be racking up a lot of CO miles by flying, you may be better off with a good hotel card.
