"Shotgun wedding" of Hawaiian and Aloha

Nice description of the difficulty of merging two very different corporate cultures in this Honolulu Star-Bulletin article (from the Seattle Times website)

"The rivals lined the perimeter of the penthouse boardroom in First Hawaiian Tower, holding in decades of mutual suspicion. Aloha Airlines board members sat by one corner of the room. Representatives from Hawaiian Airlines stood silently."

Looks like trouble in paradise to me. May we also see fare increases or more miles needed for intraislands air passes?

oh c'mon... there isn't a merger in the world that hasn't started out the same way. the senior execs have gotten all buddy-buddy negotiating their golden parachutes. now the mid to upper level execs who actually have to make this thing work are having to face off. nobody knows who will survive to merger of the two, and both sides are protecting their interests and futures. i know i'd probably act the exact same way until a direction was established.

my brother-in-law is going thru the merger of bayer and aventis (?) right now, and it sounds very similar to what he's described as well.
