Another good China Eastern sale that helps accumulate a good amount of MQDs at an excellent rate, this time from Los Angeles... Source: My site PremiumCabin.Deals
Odd thing is that the cheap outbound price is via Nanking/Nanjing a city that I last visited in 2007!
LAX-NKG-ICN-PVG-LAX :
28320 RDMs, 21240 MQMs and 5664 MQDs
LAX-NKG-BKK-PVG-LAX : 33108 RDMs, 24831 MQMs and 6621 MQDs
LAX-NKG-HKG-PVG-LAX
29120 RDMs, 21840 MQMs and 5824 MQDs

I flew a cheap biz class round trip from LAX to BKK via NKG last January. Even though I gave my delta FF number when I checked in at LAX and again when I checked in at BKK, but it never got applied to the flights after the connection in NKG (I didn't earn miles for NKG-BKK nor NKG-LAX even though I was promised by the check-in agent that I would). I've sent my info to Delta twice trying to get my miles but no luck so far.
Also, I'll mention that connecting in NKG sucks. They make all passengers pass through immigration (same line as passengers planning to enter China), pick up their luggage, and check in for the connecting flight as if it is a totally separate ticket. It was a slow process. I was told that isn't the case when connecting at PVG.

I was told when I checked in that they can transfer your luggage at PVG but not NKG (although I've never done it myself). The check-in agent recommended that I connect in PVG next time even if it costs more.
The business class flights were actually fine. I'd heard some bad things about MU but I had good flights.
EDIT: It took 7 months but Delta finally gave me my miles. I actually earned Delta Silver Status from doing this round-trip just once

Seems that Delta has some huge issues with partner airlines such as MU/AM... My advice, at check-in always triple check that the SM number, if an agent says you are good to go, don't trust them unless your SM is on the BP...
Delta agents at least via Twitter can't access the MU system to add numbers, you need to reach out to MU (which is a pain). Agents on the phone in the US are OK-ish and for seat assignments I've had to use the French site...
Still the hard product is good and the MQDs are great

I-D at PVG - arrived from JFK early in the morning - got through immigration fairly quick. Waited for at least 30 minutes for airside transfer to open; once time, I entered through the door, but was not allowed to go up the escalator, and was asked to proceed further ahead, and exited landside on the domestic part of the terminal. Had I known, could have done all of that without the waiting around.
D-I at PVG - departed (PEK) and arrived (PVG), both at remote gates. Clear instructions on the floor guiding pax for international transfer. Exited at immigration processing, then through security.

I think three hours is enough time. I wouldn't book anything with less than a three hour layover though.
