I am surprised at the 35 minute Schengen to non-Schengen transfer in HEL which requires going through passport control for Schengen exit.

The last time I flew BUD-HEL-JFK, the inbound plane from BUD pulled up to a non-Schengen gate. We had to wait for a bus to transfer us to the Schengen terminal.

I did a 35 minute non Schengen to Schengen transfer a few years ago without a bus but I had to run like mad and I was lucky that the E-gates were in use. This was pre Brexit.

it let me book it twice so they believe it’s possible… if I miss it then there’s another flight (on a A320 instead of A350 so I will cry if I miss it) a few hours later and plenty of JFK flights the next day. If it’s early/on-time it’s definitely possible if the immigration queue for a stamp is quick enough

I booked it for 2 trips next year. The second one was around Ł1,300 for 860TP by squeezing in a JFK-BOS before a trans con.

just need to find a decent tier run from LAX that allows some stopovers to keep my GGL next year… I want to be able to stay a night / day in smaller US cities or towns that I’ve never been to

They often hold flights and give priority to those with a connection.

That is unfortunate! I plan to book BUD-HEL-LAX with the same 35 minute connection. A misconnect would be an advantage. Although, historically, the flight has only been late 4 times this month from 4 to 11 minutes.

To be clear, this is not correct for earning AA points. Earning rates are based on when you travel (ie, when you actually get on the plane), not when you booked your ticket.

Someone needs to tell British Airways then

"The changes will come into effect from 18 October 2023. Any tickets issued from this date will collect Avios based on total eligible spend."

The original question is in regards to earning points with AA. I have edited my post to reduce confusion, just in case.

Thanks for clarifying this looks so much like a BA Tier Point run discussion I overlooked that detail.

I noticed this fare said "no change fees". What fare class does this book into?
I imagine that requires availability of the same class of service.

These fares usually have a 180 day advance purchase restriction. May 2024 has lots of availability.
