Roll dates on dec ... how annoying
I took a bunch of flights on Qatar in Sep and October (120 tier points), and then again took flights in Feb (120 tier points). When I check my account it seems that I am still the lowest tier level (Burgandy). Seem that, as opposed to say BA - Qatar do not roll your tier points on the anniversary that you join but rather on a set date (december).
If it were on the anniversary of joining- I would easily hit Gold within one calendar year of joining, however I am still languishing in Burgandy....
Not a great system I think, and I am not really tempted to stick with them. I will rather just book emirates (where I also am silver, and can easily reach gold)
Any thoughts ?

GGGGGGRRRRRRR
It's just the way the Privilege club works, if you do the same flight next year then you will be silver but not gold (300 points for gold). I prefer the way qatar works compared to other airlines and i can keep silver without any problems and the miles rack up too.

I am not sure if you are implying that Emirates grants status based on mileage earned over a rolling period, but I would bet that 80% or more of major airlines grant status only on a calendar-year basis. It is unfortunate, I agree, and wish that they would be more customer-friendly.
If it's any consolation, the difference between Silver and Gold on QR is minimal. Silver grants check-in at business class lines and usage of business-class lounges, as opposed to first-class and first-class for Gold, but at many airports there aren't both, anyway, and at many other airports (e.g., Doha), there isn't much difference. The redeemable mileage bonus is greater in Gold, of course.
I have perceived no difference in general customer service treatment between Silver and Gold (and Burgundy and Zilch-status, for that matter); QR really cares about what class of service you're flying in. Maybe there would be better treatment in irregular operations, but lord help us if that ever happens on QR, as I am sure that it wouldn't be pretty. (Ironically, the only free upgrade I ever got on QR was as Silver, on DOH-NBO. Never as Gold.)

Rolling periods
Hi mecabq
Concnerning most airlines using a set 12 month roll period - I only have experience of BA and Emirate (I am silver, with one flight left for gold). Both of these use rolling 12 month periods for calculations of tier points. BA, however, reset you once you reach silver to zero tier points and then you have to accumulate again (over a 12 month period) to hit gold.
Maybe other airlines do not have rolling periods.... however BA (and oneworld affiliates), plus one middle eastern airline get me 99% of place I want to go. Therefore, whilst I do like Qatar and especially the lounges... I probably just stick with Emirates (I like the A380s anyway).
I do think they should look into making their program a 12 month rolling one, I guess was my point !

Qatar Silver
Very true. Some months ago, my dad was supposed to be on a flight that was cancelled maybe an hour before departure. No reason whatsoever was given, and no compensation was given either. He was just put on the next flight after a few hours. This despite being a QR Gold in F.
Emirates Silver is useless.
I also get regular upgrades with Qatar.

Yeah, Qmiles is an excellent programme. Attaining status isn't that hard, especially if based outside DOH. My gripe is different mileage for different classes - it doesn't tell you how many you would earn on the booking page. Though, being based in DXB it's very impractical to use QR.

Try writing to them citing your recent flying and ask them to upgrade your account to Silver for this year. You have nothing to lose. Politely mention that you have Emirates silver and are debating about whether to stick with QR or earn Gold on EK. Let us know what happens.
