QR doesn't accept Amex?
I found this on their website.
http://www.qatarairways.com/global/e...Airwaysaccept?
However I see that some people who have posted in this thread have managed to use an Amex. QR has a special going on between Australia and South Africa via Doha and I have a friend in Doha so I would like to book this but I want my Amex MR points too!
The fare I want is bookable online and I prefer not to use travel agents as they all charge a 2-4% surcharge to use an Amex so if someone could tell me how to do this online I would appreciate it. I will credit the miles to UA.

Which credit cards does Qatar Airways accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard and Diners Club. Please note that we do not accept virtual credit cards since the physical card must be presented at check-in for verification.

I ended up going to a travel agent as the promtional fare would be expiring soon, seats were going fast and I had to push my depature back two days as the date I wanted was full. With the Aussie dollar headed south, I figured grab the cheap fare before they raise it! At least they took the Amex with 1.9% surcharge, the competitor was a 4% surcharge!

I asked the agent in QR office in FRA about using AMEX. He said they do accept them but the problem is that they have to process the charge manually becuase their system is not adjusted to accept AMEX automatically unlike VISA or MC.
He also told me that all QR staff hate to do that work and this is why they try to make the customers pay with their MC or VISA. However, if the customer insist on his AMEX they will process his ticket but it must be done in one of QR offices.

i booked through expedia and used amex like i always do for the MR, because they provide luggage loss protection, and because they take care of you when the merchant refuses to.
i've heard about QRs policy that they want you to present the charge card used to book the flight when you check in. since QR apparently isn't set up with a merchant account with amex, i'm curious what sort of issue this will cause. i'm sure i'm not the first person who's used amex through a booking agent like expedia to travel on QR.

Amex themselves booked QR flights for me a couple of times but they had to use alternative payment form themselves but managed to charge my card eventually manually.
Presumably they wired money to QR ?

AFAIK this rule only applies to bookings generated directly on their website. Not 100% sure, though. However, I have never had to show a credit card for verification purposes when using a third party booking machine like Expedia et al.

Sorry to state this but once you leave US, getting an establishment that accepts Amex is next to impossibility. I have a Skymiles Platinum as well as the Amex Platinum here in the states but whenever I travel abroad I dont bother taking those since the rest of the world mostly runs on Visa / Master!
