Lounge access / experience FRA & FCO during COVID
Hi all,
Not sure if this is the place to post this question, so I will apologize in advance for posting in the wrong place
We are traveling from SFO to Lusaka Zambia next week. This was for a trip scheduled for 2020 and got postponed for a year. The operator really didn't want us to postpone again, and since we are fully vaccinated, we thought we'd go to support the local tourism industry. They basically only have American clients this year given EU travel restrictions.
Anyways, we have really long layovers in Frankfurt (outbound) and Rome (return). I do see that there are LH lounges open but no food is served? Has anyone experienced these lounges during COVID? We will be in FRA for 10 hours, so no food seems less than ideal (not that we couldn't do with a fast now and again).
And what about the Star Alliance lounge in FCO? It looks nice and seems to be open?
Any help greatly appreciated. And I promise to write up our travel experience either enroute or upon our return. Thanks!

Even during normal times, I would not recommend spending 10 hours in a lounge. Are there earlier flights you can switch?
Surely there are easting options in the terminal, non-free ones

Repooc17 , I hear you! Unfortunately, there are no earlier flights. There is one flight per day and this is it! We were suppose to leave home later, but that flight (on Swiss) got cancelled. I'm puzzled by how German airports are handling food, since Germany is still prohibiting indoor dining at this time. So doesn't that mean there's no dining in the airport, since it's all indoors?

I visited the FRA LH Senator Lounge last month and no food was allowed. They offered things like pretzels and bananas to be consumed outside the lounge.
I didn't have trouble finding a seat but almost all were taken.
Showers were available.

leoo , what was FRA like outside the lounges? Are there stores/restaurants open? Did you have any trouble going from non-Shengen to Shengen?
I didn't have any food but I believe there were food options available.
It looks like restaurants are open now and require proof of vaccination, recovery or negative test to be served inside:

I didn't try to access Schengen so I can't comment on that but I had no trouble with my non-Schengen to non-Schengen itinerary (GRU-FRA-DXB).

Hello! Posting this from the LH Senator lounge in FRA, non-Schengen B gates. There is food and drink at the lounge! We landed at a Z gate but the Z lounge wouldn't let us in (said it was full?). But the B one is very nice. We had to go thru security again.
Getting into the lounge was quite a process though. They are checking for vaccination status, plus you have to either fill out a paper form or an app for contact tracing. The app requires SMS code so wouldn't work for folks without cell service. Lots of confusion. I'm not sure if one is required to be vaccinated in order to enter? We had our CDC card and I did see some folks turned away but not sure why. There are signs that masks are required, but lots of people unmasked (I'd say it's 50/50).
In general, FRA is very busy. Were it not for the masks, I would have thought it was 2019.
