To not show them in the activity section means many SPG Amex card holders will never know they hit...
I was thinking the same thing. I went into my account expecting to see them show up on the activity screen but didn't find them there.

Now that the ZHA/ZRA promotional rates are active at some properties (such as the Sheraton Austin), is anyone seeing availability (or even rate) differences between the AmEx benefit rates and the Z3H/Z3R rates available to the general public?

I found some differences in the wrong direction. Z3H is available at the Nines in Portland, but no ZHA. Z3R works at the Westin Beach Resort FLL, but ZRA doesn't. I hope this only means that some properties haven't loaded the rates. Otherwise AmEx has given us a “benefit” of worse rates if we don't also try the non-AmEx promotion codes!

No. Indeed, it looks a total mess. When I use the link from Amex, http://www.starwoodhotels.com/promot...AMEX_PROMOTION, and search for rates, I end up with the error "The promotion code you requested is invalid." But ... wait for it ... the URL of the search includes "promotionCode=Z3R"! (and Z3R is then displayed in the Promotion code field on the form)

I've not checked any resorts, so Z3R is wrong in two ways and should be ZHA!

How do these show up in your account? Do your nights just increase or is there a line item?

not any different then how they appear by Marriott , your total night/stay count is increased

so if you never have been checking to see what your running totals were during the year, then you will simply have to click your acct back to 1/1/10 and count up the # of Stays and Nights what they should be and then look at what your total is and the difference if any will be the 2/5 or 4/10 for the Amex CCs

I was looking here for insight on the same question of whether the 3rd night free is actually a real benefit compared to the Z3H/Z3R rates currently available.

The SPG AmEx benefit only states third night free at participating Sheraton brand hotels and the hotels you give as an example of not having ZHA/ZRA rates are Luxury Collection and Westin brands.

I guess it would be a big investigation to find out. The Amex link ends up using Z3R or Z3H, seemingly at random, rather than the codes it's supposed to use.
e.g.
Perth: Z3H (was Z3R a few days ago!) - error message
Hong Kong: Z3R - actual availability!
Tokyo: Z3H - error message

First, both of you have to be in a hotel the same night (under 1%). Second, both of you have to stay at the same hotel (again, under 1%). Next, the hotel has to provide him the benefit over you (let's say 50%), so worst case the impact of such a person on you during the whole year is under 1 in 20,000. This is higher than winning the lottery, but not at the level one should be concerned about.

I doubt that there is even data to support "more members" if we are willing to accept natural fluctuation in number of platinum members (my guess is that the impact of this is <1%).
I'm with you Sagy. I'm not worried about dilution of the PLT status.

My point is that I want some kind of incentive to give SPG or some other hotel chain ALL of my business. I'm begging them (figuratively) to give me something that will incentivize me to stay at their properties 100% of the time. Instead, I just ho-hum my way to top status on multiple chains in order to maximize promotions. This is the case for many road warriors who spend every week on the road. IMHO, hotel chains are losing out big by not offering something better to those who want to give a chain all of their business. Give me a reason to!
