SPG in Maui
Greeting - this is my first post on this forum but I had been passive member for a while.
I am looking to take my wife to Maui in May 2011 and wondering if anyone knows any good rates at either Westin or Sheraton... I did some search and can't find anything below $299.. I am SPG Gold and Platinum to be later this year.
Thanks in advance

Even better, same dates, $243 AAA rate includes breakfast at Sheraton. $255 at Westin but no breakfast. I much prefer the Sheraton regardless.

I am a member and use AAA rates regularly. I've been asked to produce the card only once in the past three years. If you are not a member of AAA and decide to use the rate, you are taking the risk that if asked and unable to provide proof of membership, your AAA rate goes to the RACK rate at the desk.

For those dates, the rates shown from billxmeredith are valid. To be eligible you need to be a member of AAA (formerly known as American Automobile Association) and able to produce a AAA membership card if asked.

There is also the senior rate that gets you the same price as Auto Club.

I'd recommend you book a room category you are willing to stay in, because neither property upgrades many of its guests.
That is particularly important at the Westin, where "garden view" rooms overlook the parking lot and haven't even got a closet. And the elevators in the old building are slow and there aren't enough of them.
I would stay at the Westin in its nicer tower on an SPG35N rate where you pay around $400 for an ocean view room in the newer tower, and your sixth (or is it fifth?) night is free.
That is about as good value as you can get at that property. The lower category rooms are horrible.
But if you can't afford to go over $300 per night either stay at The Whaler condos next door or book a special deal down the beach at the Royal Lahaina resort.
The Westin is right next door to the lovely Whaler's Village shopping and restaurant complex, while the Sheraton is a ten minute walk up the beach pathway.

I've just tried the SGPN35 code for your dates, and get the following results:
Westin: bad rooms go for $337-$447, the cheapest decent category is "deluxe ocean view" at $473, but of course the sixth night is free so it is really $394 per night.
Sheraton:Rooms start at $324 for no view, rising steeply to $434-$539 for ocean view rooms.
If it was me, I'd be taking the Westin Deluxe Ocean view at $473 with one night free.
By the way, on SPGN35 and SPG35HI meals charged to your room are also 35% discounted, except breakfast.
If you're going to take a cheap room, go for the $324 at the Sheraton - at least you'll have a closet.

Use Z6R code
I show the Westin with Z6R (6 nights only pay for 4) has the following from May 9-15
Ocean View $379 for 4 nights = $253 per night for 6
Dlx Ocean View $419 for 4 nights = $279 per night for 6
Premium Dlx Ocean $459 for 4 nights = $306 per night for 6

We are at the Westin Maui from may 13 to may 23 for our honeymoon. We ended up using a wholesaler that gave us airflight from lax to ogg, third floor garden view king bed (Spg gold), and car rental for $3,100 usd.
Our only other starwood experience was at the Pasadena Westin where we received a suite the second night with comp champagne and strawberries as a post wedding celebration. The note was signed by the manager.
Westin Maui just gave us a cheaper kenwood bottle of champagne, no strawberries, and a generic unsigned note.
Will try Monday for upgrade. Not hopeful after reading the ft threads and our personal experience here. We chalk it up to so many couples coming here to honeymoon that we are a dime a dozen.

Just use Priceline most people win the Westin for $100-$140 a night. If it's not the Westin you'll probably get the Hyatt.
