SPG points for charging gift shop to room?
Are you supposed to get points when you charge snacks, drinks, etc purchased at the onsite store when you charge it to your room?

Eligible Charges do not include any complimentary services, SPG Awards, SPG Promotion Rewards or any other fees or charges including, without limitation: (A) charges for banquets, meetings or other functions, with the exception of Starpoints earned from qualifying meetings or events through the Starwood Preferred Planner Program; (B) other fees paid including, without limitation, parking, business center, high-speed internet access, retail stores, spa products and services and greens fees; and (C) taxes, gratuities, service charges, mandatory or automatic charges (e.g., resort charges) and other applicable charges.

This seems to say that you *do* earn points for basic room charges (not including all taxes, service charges, resort fees, etc.), restaurant and bar F&B bills charged to your room (excluding tax and tip and assuming that local laws don't preclude earning points on alcohol purchases), room service (but maybe not the service charge, tax, gratuity, tip, and alcohol), and maybe minibar charges. Am I missing something?

However, I have gotten points for such charges in the past, and you still get the extra Amex point for the full folio regardless of eligibility (2:$1 instead of 1:$1) on spa services, parking, programmatic activities, etc. (again, at least in my experience), so all the more reason to charge things to the room.

OP said "gift shop" in the thread title. "Gift shop" = "retail store" not F & B.

I certainly do understand that gift shop purchases do not post to the bill as F&B but as a gift shop purchase, where gift shop is a special (and typical) case of retail store.

Gift shops spendings are not eligible for Starpoint credits, regardless if chargeable to room or not.
I think William has stated clearly the type of charges or spendings that won't give you Starpoints.
