Instant Gold w/Airline Promo

I just spoke w/Stawood Cust. Service
to inquire about the Promotion for Instant Gold for registering for direct deposit of mileage w/ American, Delta, US Air.
I was told I must register directly with the airline for this promotion
I am asking if anyone has had experience with this promotion? and if registering for "direct deposit" of airline miles to my Starwood account will negate the "Double/Triple,Segment Promotions etc. etc. that are now ongoing with US Air. (Which I registered for - as I will be flying US Air next week twice.)
Obviously miles cannot be posted 2 places at once, so I assume posting the miles directly to my Starwood Account, will only get me straight mileage? Can anyone comment about this?

Any promotion like this involves the deposit of miles by Starwood directly to your FF account in lieu of Starpoints, and NOT the deposit of Starpoints in lieu of mileage.

In other words, it has nothing to do with USAir's current bonus promotions.

If you received an offer to become a Gold elite member in Starwood Preferred Guest from USAir and have Starpoints from your hotel stays with us direct deposited to your Dividend Miles account, this would not affect any promotions that you may have enrolled in with USAir that involves single, double, triple or quadruple segments.

Airline miles cannot be deposited (direct or otherwise) into Starwood Preferred Guest.
